Why you Should Own a Thinline Bible | ESV Thinline Bible Review

The Thinline Edition of the ESV is one of the most popular for worship services, small groups, and on the go study. This Bible was the first ESV Bible I ever purchased, and it still works really well as one of my go-to Bibles. With so many custom options for Bibles these days, is this Bible worth owning? Here's why I recommend a thinline Bible, along with a review of two different ESV Thinline Editions.

Favorite Feature:
1. Highly compact without sacrificing text size
2. Larger Print edition comes with a Cross-reference system.

Classic Thinline
Font Size: 8 pt
Dimensions: 8.4 x 5.4 x 0.8"
Publisher: Crossway
Translation: English Standard Version (ESV)
Published: 2011

Thinline Reference Edition (larger print and cross-reference system)
Font Size: 10 pt
Dimensions: 9 x 6 x 1"
Publisher: Crossway
Translation: English Standard Version (ESV)
Published: 2012

Least Favorite Feature:
Only the "reference edition" with the larger print comes with a cross-reference system. Both editions should include this.

Verdict:
There's plenty to love about such a portable Bible, and its size makes it a very inexpensive Bible to get in genuine leather (which is a must for this Bible). If you want a great Bible to use in public settings and don't want to lug your giant study Bible with you, this is a great choice!

Appreciate the video. I currently have the smaller thinline. Cool to see it fared so well, especially for a paste down. Crossway makes such good stuff. Also have the larger thinline on the way, mainly because I wanted cross references.

I loved the fact that your father’s Bible uses the same type of ‘unofficial’ tabs as mine. I use them to divide both the Old and New Testaments into 5 basic sections.

I have a falling apart 30 year old bonded leather ultra thinline 1984 version of the NIV that I love and adore, but it's so tattered. Thank you for this review. I desperately want another ultra thin carry bible for church and for travel. This is such a hard choice! I do know I will never get a bonded leather covered one again.

I would love an ESV thinline. But the ones I've seen have all been hard to read for some reason. Even the large print ones. I've had to donate at least one that I recall. At first, I thought my eyesight was getting much worse. It scared me. But then I realized I have an ESV compact large print with 8 pt font that I can still read just fine! My eyes are bad, but not that bad. It's not me. It's a problem with some of these thinlines.

I love the ESV (though the CSB is quickly becoming a favorite too), but ever since I went single column I can't "unsee" it and go back to double columns! At least it's really hard, though I do like Schuyler's Quentel and PSQ lines, which are double column but very readable.

An excellent bible review! I have an imitation leather slimline bible. I put Fiebling's leather treatment on the cover. Even though it is imitation leather. You can put a Beeswax leather treatment on the cover. The natural Beeswax will moisturize and preserve imitation or real leather. I would recommend it.

I’m looking to get one of these, but how did you get your name on your Bible? Do they give you that option on their website? I’d definitely like to have my name on mine

Nobody make a more flexible Bible than Crossway. After you read it thinline you’ll be hooked. I was an Allan guy before I felt Crossway.

I'll own a thinline, but I won't own a distorted, altered version of God's Word.
