I feed my Doberman puppy Orijen dog food. All our dogs eat orijen because it’s one of the few that doesn’t use artificial vitamins and minerals (which had killed pets before when the wrong amount was added by manufacturers). I don’t like the peas and lentils either. Plus the with high protein content is easy to over feed. So I now give him a bit less than the recommended amount, but add some boiled chicken breast and pumpkin or sweet potatoes. My Doberman puppy is very healthy, loves his food and have the most beautiful and shiny coat in the neighborhood 😊
Btw please research on artificial vitamins and minerals in pet food (basically to lower production cost, most manufactures over process the food and all the nutrients are cooked out of it. Then they add artificial vitamins from China to make up the lost nutrients. It’s like junk food with vitamin powders. Plus it’s easy to over load the vitamins which could kill your pets. It happened before in the US). If you can’t afford more healthy kibbles just cook for them. Organ meat and vegetables are fairly cheap.

Another good video. Thank you Sam. A couple of problems with Orijen. They are high in calcium, phosphorus and sodium. Maybe not an issue with puppies? The nutrient profile is not on their website. You have to contact the company to get the information. I did. That is why I no longer feed Orijen wet food to my cats. The ingredients are listed by weight, pre-cooked. Meat is mostly water. The extrusion process to make dry food, reduces the amount of meat. So the dehydrated chicken is probably where most of the protein comes from. Maybe the lentils? Again, not an issue for puppies? Finally, Mars Candy took control of Orijen and Acana earlier this year. Mars is notorious for changing the ingredients of the pet foods they acquire. In the US, they have two years before they have to change the labels on the food bags or cans. Finding good pet food should not be this difficult.

I have used Orijen for years, do not like peas or lentils in it, but that does not stop me feeding it. A shame it has changed ownership, lets hope they don't muck up a good dog food.

Any update after Orijen was acquired by Mars.

Sam, do you sell Weruva Pet food in your store? It is a family owned business. Many of their foods are low calcium, phosphorus and sodium. They even have a line called Wx Phos Focused. It is available online in the UK. If you were to sell it, would probably do very well for you. Ed

But doesn't whole prey mean the fur or feathers should be included too?

I got a puppy who was on Purina puppy large breed food and for two weeks I was transitioning my gsd puppy to this orijen large puppy food. Today she was first day 100% on orijen and her poo was very very soft almost runny is this normal or would you say to stay on 75%(orijen):25% (purina)

i got a puppy a week ago American akita 3 months old, i use the same food that they use to feed her so i wont upset her tummy in the beginning using the same (Harringtons Complete Natural) medium range can say, so i am thinking now to change to the best dry food high on protein etc, i am about to change to Orijen but after seen many videos about Mars company i am a bit confused. I also have a local pet shop here that they might e able to provide some source of local made dry food, but i wanted to ask you opinion and advice if i should still go for Orijen or any other company with same ingrediency. thank you :) @The Dog Nutrition Channel.
