What Percentage Of A Shape Is Shaded? (Calculator Allowed)

In this video you will be shown how to work out the percentage of a shape that is shaded providing you have a calculator. To do this first write down the fraction of the shape that is shaded, and multiply the answer by 100. If you don’t have a fraction key on your scientific calculator divide the numerator by the denominator and multiply the answer by 100.

So in example 1 you have a rectangle with 7 squares and 5 are shaded, and you are asked to find the percentage that is shaded. First write down the fraction which is shaded red which is 5/7 and multiply the fraction by 100. So in your calculator divide 5 by 7 and times by 100 to give 71.4%.
