5 Free Garmin running apps and data fields to download right now

We've tested a lot of Garmin watches this year and part of that testing has been rummaging around Garmin's Connect IQ store to see if there's anything else worth adding into the watch mix to make it a better running companion.

While Connect IQ is no match for app storefronts like the Apple App Store, we've managed to pick out a small collection of free Connect IQ apps and data fields that have caught Tester Mike's eye that we are sharing with you.

My favourite is a data field called Rolling Average Pace. You configure the distance that you want it to tell you about (maybe 400m, 800m) and it gives you your average pace on a rolling basis for just that distance. It’s quite a good tool during a long run where maybe your overall average pace is skewed because of a warmup but doesn’t fluctuate as wildly as an instant pace field would and doesn’t rely on you remembering to keep pressing the lap button

I love the "Walk with Frodo" App. Depending on how many km or miles you run it shows you where Frodo would have been on his journey to destroy the ring. It's just a gimmick but it's well made and fun to use.

Race screen sounds like a great one! Going to have a play about with that. I tend to do a lot of Battersea Park races and the GPS is always out!

The actual list of apps starts after 3:00. He just repeats the same pieces of information over and over again until that point.

Yeah race screen is one I use and how the background changes colour if your ahead or behind your goal. Good for visually impaired like me.
