People are running out of borrowed money to spend for new vehicles that are clearly way too expensive for most consumers. It's not just a Mazda problem.

The average age of a used car in America is almost 13 years. People are tapped out and don’t want a $500/month car payment for 6 years when they don’t know if they will be employed a year from now. They are trying to keep what they have. Paid off is always cheaper than 0% financing.

As an owner of a 2015 Mazda3 hatchback daily driver, I love this car brand. I wouldn't mind a CX-50 or an updated 3 once I see what the 2026 looks like. I don't like seeing Mazda prices skyrocketing though.

I'm still scratching my head about the CX-70 simply because it's again just a CX-90 with a third-row delete and the two are practically identical aside from slightly different trim pieces on the exterior.

Automakers have focused on making the most expensive cars possible, and dealers were making money off markups. Suddenly the world is different and suddenly people want affordable cars. Even though these manufacturers supposedly have affordable cars, they didn't make those models

I had a Hyundai Sonata for 21 yrs, never owed me a cent, loved that car. When time came to take advantage of change, I researched cars for 3yrs and hands down, it had to be a Mazda this time. Chose the CX30. Not so great on fuel consumption, but safety & long term performance top notch.

They’ll be fine. Difference between Nissan and Mazda is Nissan has crap quality. Mazda will do just fine. All manufacturers need to reign in the prices for the cars. Get rid of most of the gadgets. We are not driving living rooms, they are cars. Transportation.

The entire auto market is SOFT. Its because consumers are being hammered by inflation. Somethings gotta give and auto's is one of them.

I Don't think it will be the same trap as Nissan and Infiniti. The problem with Nissan and Infiniti is that the quality and the "fun Factor" (I don't know what to call it, but it is that undefinable enjoyment in driving) was killed with crappy (truly unreliable) CVT's and fancy electronic doodads no one needed or wanted. Who cares about their variable compression turbo? It sucks to drive compared to a 6 cylinder or even a well designed 4 turbo, and their 6 cyl turbo is meh. Plus the Q series was a pale imitation of the G series, but more expensive. I really think Nissan as a whole peaked in the 1990'2 and that carried them for a bit until people recognized the changes in design and reliability. Mazda is more or less keeping it simple, but upgrading the ride with tried and true methods as well as beautiful interiors. They are not quite at a BMW level but are miles cheaper fully loaded than the starting price of a BMW 5 (relative to CX-70), far more dependable, much less to maintain and repair, should it be needed. BMW's used to die at about 75, 000 miles. I heard the new engines are better, but Mazda has always built cars that could go 150, 000 or 200, 000 miles or more. Maybe they should knock 2500 or 3000 off the CX-70 since it is not the CX-90, and redesign a mid-cycle CX-90 with app 210 inch length, and cut 2-3 inches off the CX-70. I am sure now it is easier as it looks like they can share an assembly line, but right now it is a CX-90 with 3rd row delete, a few minor additions (truly minor). Or put the CX-80 with a US I-6 Turbo on the streets as a CX-70. Just not enough differentiation and the same price. Plus, I would l a largish mid-side RWD biased AWD sedan or wagon or liftback with the I6 turbo on the large platform. To bad they couldn't top out the CX-70 under 50K, and the CX-90 under 55K

People want lower cost cars! Say like Ford, they had the focus and fiesta then the fusion and Taurus now it’s just SUVs and they’re much more expensive than those cars were!

Regardless their operating profits are up a silly amount, 68%. The difference between 90's Nissan and Mazda is that Nissan overextended their lineup and production centers, put off updating their lineup, and doubled down on under-pricing the cost of their cars for nearly a decade to max volume. Then they had no cash and old product requiring large investment to update when the rug was pulled out from under them (yen recovered). Mazda has new product, prices are competitive to their competitors (match awd to awd**), and these incentives are easily adjusted/reversed moving forward.

Pushing for volume with incentives in the short term while the yen is down may be a good idea. The more mazdas get out onto the roads the more people see the brand, which is a hurdle for lower volume manufacturers. Marketing and incentive dollars don't need to work as hard when its already in people's minds and in front of them on the road. It will be worrying if the incentives remain at these levels a year or two from now.
