The United Nations Is Created | Flashback | History

On June 26, 1945, delegates from 50 countries signed the charter of the United Nations in San Francisco, creating an international government tasked with maintaining peace around the world in the wake of World War II. After the signing, President Truman delivered a speech to the delegates in which he stated, "With this Charter the world can begin to look forward to the time when all worthy human beings may be permitted to live decently as free people". #HistoryChannel #Flashback

I find it crazy that this signing took place on June 26, 1945, AKA my birthday! Also, one of the countries to sign on this charter was the Philippines, whose then ambassador, carlos P. Romulo, signed on behalf of my country. I happen to own a letter he wrote during his stay in New York, still one of my most prized possessions.

In 1945, the UN was created as a place where sovereign nations could meet peacefully to settle differences via dialogue. This was a grand idea, but over the decades it has been perverted and turned upside down to the point that the UN is even doing the unthinkable - taking on governmental powers, which is the polar opposite of its original purpose of fostering healthy relations between nations. No nation can possibly be healthy after losing its sovereignty. Make the UN what it was meant to be, not this perversion we have now. Else, it should be done away with because right now it is only a global cancer.
