So let me see if I get this right: The UN was founded to provide resolutions world wide, maintain peace, and overall find the best ending possible for all... but we gave special power to few to maintain their own interest over the others... genius... just genius...

Veto power was a dumb idea to begin with. if you don't agree make a club with you and 14 of your friends and then give yourself and four other friends the right to veto anyone else joining the club or anyone to do anything then you will how this Veto Power is terrible.

Ban Ki-Moon gets 20, 000$ a month to "worry". A pretty sweet occupation.
He "expressed worry" approximetly 180 times last year, 37 times on Yemen alone.

They cannot get rid of the veto. They can modify it though. perhaps requiring vetos from 2 or more representatives for any veto to pass.

It's funny how a bunch of mercenaries from south Africa with Soviet area weapons could protect a oil rig from Angolan rebels but once the UN pressured the Angolan government to cancel there contact with Executive Outcomes for a bunch of UN peace keepers and within less of a year the rebels took the oil rig back.

The effectiveness of the United Nations relies on the following key reforms:

1. Eliminating veto rights.

2. Relocating the UN headquarters from the United States.
Here’s why: Relocating the UN headquarters from the United States has merits, including enhanced neutrality, global representation symbolism, reduced security risks, better accessibility, potential cost savings, and improved perception among developing nations.

3. Implementing consequences for nations that do not abide by the majority decisions.
Here’s how: Economic Sanctions, Diplomatic Isolation, Travel Restrictions, Asset Freezing, International Criminal Court (ICC).

I believe the veto power should be reduced from absolute veto, to allow a requirement of just 3 out of the P5. The two-thirds rule could still apply. (9 out of 15, but just allow 3 of the 9 members voting for a resolution be part of the P5).

veto power is very important because it ensures that stable countries such as the us China Russia France and the UK can override anything from an unstable country such as Iran Afghanistan Iraq Syria Jordan Egypt etc.

Although the veto was a good idea at the time of conception, when the P5 did represent a good chunk of the world's interest to maintain balance, as well as being the countries with the capacity to intervene, this model no longer holds. May I point anyone interested to read up on a suggestion for the reformation of the UNSC by Professor Kishore Mahbubani where there would be an increase from 15 to 21 states separated into 3 categories to better represent the changing landscape of the world today.

I'd rather have a veto, than world war.
