New life, old village: a home in Moldova for less than €1000

Moldovan explorer Cristian Panuta buys and repairs abandoned houses in a remote Moldovan village at the border with Ukraine.
In Pohrebea, Nata Albot, a well-known Moldovan journalist and event producer, is fixing her 100-year-old house with horse manure. She created a platform for those interested in renovating and buying old houses. With nearly 50,000 members, the Facebook group "Mă mut la țară" ("I am moving to the countryside" in Romanian) surprisingly hit the spot.
"People call me, they send me messages, they ask me questions about buying and fixing houses," Nata says.

I'm American, but I have a special love for Moldova and the people of Moldova. When I was younger I hoped to migrate there, even started learning Moldovan/Romanian - but I found it was possible to visit, but to get a Visa to be able to migrate there was nearly impossible so I gave up on that dream. I've been following the progress (both up and down) of Moldova for years, and continue to pray that it either merges with Romania or finds it's way into the bigger European family. The population is in such decline, if Moldova doesn't do something soon I fear for it's future.

My house is probably 250 years old or maybe even older and the original plaster was lime plaster mixed with hay and horse manure. Some of the original plasterwork remains. There are no houses left in the part of Somerset where I live which were built with mud walls because there is plenty of good local building stone but in other lowland parts of England where there is no stone, mud was common and probably used up to the time railways arrived and bricks were much cheaper and less labour-intensive.

Looks like west virginia. When I drive through the mountains there are abandoned villages all over the place. You can probably buy a whole village for a few thousand.

When I search online for properties in Moldova, or some other poor east euro country, they ask for 60k euro for a small plot of land without any buildings (even less than a acre) so I don’t understand where people find these cheap prices.

Hey brother,

Do you know if there's any chance I could buy a Moldovan village property from abroad?
I would like to buy a house now when its cheap. And start to find people who want to plant a garden and restore it in exachange for living there for free. And maybe after some years or in a year I will come.

I'd like to get in contact if youre available

Thanks

Sounds a lot of alcoholics as neighbors which can be quite dangerous too. So its not relaxing as it seems.

Naslavcea used to be a Jewish shtetl. There were many of them in Bessarabia. Beautifull village.

All old houses in post-soviet countries didn't have kitchen or toilets, they did their business outside in a small room kind of toilet and the food was made on old stoves inside one of the bedrooms.

If you are a digital nomad looking for a quiet life, this is something for you. You won't need to work full time. You can live from a small budget and tax rate is 4 times lower than in my country.
