A hiker fell almost 200-feet down a mountain and survived! On Dec. 24, a woman named Ruth Woroniecki went hiking near Cucamonga Peak in Southern California. According to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, icy conditions led to a life-threatening tumble. Authorities say gusty winds made the rescue difficult. At 8,862-feet, Cucamonga Peak is one of the highest places for views in the San Gabriel Mountains.

I’m so glad she was rescued and there’s not a lot of complications. I slipped on a rock but it was only a 10 ft fall. Went unconscious and woke up in the hospital, and that was about 7 years ago. Same with her, it was pretty cold and I didn’t even know California mountains could become icy when our winter weather is sunny.

Whenever I see stories like these I can’t help but wonder how much of the situation was the victim’s fault. Yes, you can’t be prepared for everything, but being as prepared as possible is what prevents this stuff from happening.

Thank goodness they blurred her face on the stretcher but blasted it in the thumbnail I almost didn't recognize her

I can't even begin to fathom how beyond terrifying it would already be just being stuck in such icey conditions, in such a place..., not to mention, that fear quickly becoming all too real, as you fall to what you surely believe is without a doubt, your death.

Meanwhile I fall mere inches and break every bone in my body.

Hope she recovers easy!

I bet she survived because she passed out on her way down and her body wasn't tensed up.
