The people underplaying this fall either got massive egos, have never fallen down a even relatively steep slope before, or both. Yes he's lucky that the snows' condition was what it was, it likely did save him, but that fall was nuts

I was skiing at Jackson Hole last year and took a tumble, I tomahawked only twice and it was horrible! I can’t even imagine how horrifying it must have been for Ian!!

Wow...could you imagine the feeling once you realized you were going down the side of a sheer cliff and would be falling down the rest of the way...Jesus the panic you would feel. Glad he's ok.
