*You Need To Start Ignoring Your Impulses

as someone with ADHD this is something I strongly recommend. it won't solve everything, but it will help stop the more destructive impulses and help with the emotional dysregulation. (obviously with a medical regimen as well)

I think it is important to be able to notice your desires first without ignoring all of them. Notice it and ask yourself if it is good or bad for you

The point is not ignoring your desires. Its recognising which ones can actually benefit your life. For that you have to feel them all and sort them out. THEN it goes around ignoring or rerouting the harmful ones.

See this is actually really helpful for someone like me who generally thinks too much and spends waaaay too much time worrying about my situation rather than try and fix it

I am autistic. Constantly having to ignore myself for everyone else's comfort is what turned me into this wreck in the first place.

Recognize your emotions and feel them. That is very important. See where you feel them. Don't judge just feel. Let it come and don't force it to go away with stimuli (impulses) out of these emotions and don't act to fast out of these emotions if they are bad habits. Then you'll see that you are closer to yourself and can start taking actions that feel more close to home.

My therapist calls this, "Therapuetic Apathy" and it has helped me recognize terrible thoughts and emotions and then be able to move forward in a neutral manner aka with control over myself.

Ignoring myself was a pretty big component of the therapy I was in as a teen for my OCD.

I still have counting and OCD obsessions going 24/7 in my mind, but it's background noise. I ignore it, I continue on with my day.

Criminally underrated piece of content. 10/10.

Very interesting. It’s a tightrope walk for me between maintaining distance from my impulses and maintaining awareness of the data my body is giving me (for example, should I ignore my hunger and get back to work or eat dinner now?)

I agree with this to an extent, I feel like this is what I was master of when I was younger. I had a 7 hour concentration span, highly disciplined etc. But I've come into adulthood not knowing myself and with a great deal of shame. I think discipline was my coping mechanism for my surroundings but also a crutch and stopped me from knowing my social self or just feeling any sort of ease within myself. I can go back to discipline because I've known it, I definitely overshot on the lack of discipline later in life- I'm sure there's an in between too where you can know yourself as well

Ignore your impulses is a more accurate term.

Why would I ignore myself? I have everyone else for that.

Time and time again, many of my best experiences have come from ignoring myself.
