Do you need a new heating and cooling system? Does saving money on your utility bill and reducing emissions sound good to you? Check out if a ground-source or an air-source heat pump is right for you. In this video I break down what the differences are between air-source and ground-source heating and cooling, what you should look into before deciding on purchasing a specific system, and the comments on my last videos on geothermal and air-source heat pumps.

00:00 Intro
00:21 AIR-SOURCE VS GROUND-SOURCE HEAT PUMPS
00:30 1. Types of Heat Pump Systems: Ducted Central vs. Ductless Mini Splits
00:43 2. Efficiency of Air-Source Heat Pump (ASHP) vs. Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHP: Heat Capacity and Ambient Temperature
02:09 3. Upfront Costs: ASHP vs. GSHP, Incentives, and Financing
02:39 4. Noise / Sound: Quiet ASHP vs. Silent GSHP
02:54 5. Space required: Outside ASHP like Air Conditioners vs. Underground GSHP
03:35 6. Time to Install: Days (ASHP) vs. Weeks (GSHP)
03:48 7. Rebates / Incentives: Federal, State, and Utility Rebates
03:57 8. Conclusion: Air-Source vs. Ground-Source Heating and Cooling
04:44 RECOMMENDED CONSIDERATIONS for the SPECIFIC HEAT PUMP PURCHASE
04:54 1. Smart Air-Source Heat Pumps: Efficiency Optimisation: Ambient Temperature and Time-of-Use
05:32 2. Coefficient of Performance: Devices Ambient Temperature Profile and Costs
05:56 3. Different Noise Levels: Ground-Source or Quiet ASHP Model

I have a waterfurnace 4 ton 5 series installed in 2013, so far so good. Only 2 repairs under warranty. Michigan here.

Could you please compare and contrast the refrigerant usage of the two systems? Does one use a more environmentally friendly refrigerant? And also how much refrigerant does each system use over the lifetime of use? Thank you!!

hi..
I work with a piling rig in northern alberta canada. the rig i work with will drill a 15" to 8' big bore hole up to 120' in depth. Can i drill a maybe 30" hole and install 2-3 loops with 2" lines and fill with grout?

If a secondary ground source tube/pipe was placed above ground on a south face so during the summer or in temp above 10 degrees, would that make the ground source more efficient?

Hi I want to install a geothermal cooling system at home but here in my country there is no such supplier or some personal please help how I myself can fulfill my requirement myself as I have technically how know plz help

With heat recovery ventilation and good sealing/insulation you can heat a home with less energy than is needed for a hair dryer. This isn’t a new tech, it’s very mature now although there aren’t as many technicians trained to install and maintain. It pays to shop around for companies with a good reputation, like any major purchase. I’ve always known that ‘green’ tech wouldn’t take off u til it was not just economically viable but superior. We are now there.

Why you didn't mention operation of a Air To Water Heat pump. This is the most amazing technology. You can do Radiant heating, cooling, domestic hot water, pool heating....water is the way to go....

60 to 100 metres deep.. is that right? That's very deep.

Ground source heat pumps stop working as heat gets removed faster than it is replaced by surrounding ground.

Why do people mix up ground source and geothermal heat sources. If you talk about geothermal you should talk about using the heat radiating from earth core.
Are people afraid that they do not get enough clicks, when they do not use the buzzword "geothermal".

Reality check. I just got two nearly identical quotes. 3100 square foot house with radiant heat. Geothermal system, new construction. 144, 000 dollars. 35 thousand dollars is complete nonsense.

Lmao. Says this is not a political video....immediately turns political.
