I always wondered why they never drank water, but it makes sense. All placental mammels like puppies and kittens dont start water drinking until they’re being weaned

Dude... 20 years on this planet and it never once occured to me that babies don't drink water. Ignorance like that is always scary af to learn about because while my dumb ass was never put in a position where I could give a baby water, one day I might unknowingly screw up with something equally fatal and I wouldn't even know. You're out here doing really good work. 😭

My son is nearly 18. Back in early 2006, the health advisor told me to give my son some water in between feeds as he was hungry. I was 18 myself so I followed her advice. Thankfully he is fine. My daughter arrived 4 years later and I asked should I do the same again, and she said no and claimed she’d never given me that advice. I changed health advisors after that. My mom was there with me when she told me to do it, I hadn’t misheard her or misunderstood her. She was also a really rude person too, so I was glad to change her.

This video just made me realise that babies don't drink water💀
Edit : I'm so fed up of people commenting that breastmilk consists of water, wine consists of water too but it's called wine for a reason, just because it has water in it doesn't mean it's water, get your smart ass to think twice

This is why you never dilute formula. Always follow the exact recommendations on the tin

This is another example on why parenting classes should be mandatory for first time parents.

This seems like an important info that I, someone who has looked after babies, should have been told at some point

40 years ago, my newborn was given bottles of sugar water in the hospital and I was told to make sure he had one every day. Between that and being instructed to place him in his crib in what is now known as a dangerous position, it's a miracle he survived.

This is also why you should follow the formula to water ratios on the tin!!! Add the water first, then scoop the formula in so it’s accurate. Accidentally forgetting or adding a scoop every once in a while won’t hurt much but you shouldn’t be diluting formula on purpose - it happens with people who are struggling to feed their children, or sometimes people simply don’t know this. I wasn’t told when I was pregnant or after I gave birth, I saw it online and verified it.

Why does it feel like I should’ve know this sooner? We need life education more than anything in school now.

Some mothers from Nigeria needs to her this, emphasis on the word *some*. my little girl was breastfed until she was 6 months old. She had chubby cheeks, thighs, she was healthy in every way but my relatives and friends kept saying she is needs water, she needs milk. I was made to feel I was not looking after my child properly. That little girl is 12 now, healthy in every possible way.

God the baby stage is just the WORST. 😂 so much can kill them and they ACTIVELY seek those things out nonstop.

Rule of thumb is only breastmilk/formula during first six months and no honey during first two years.

We do more background check and test when considering someone for an Uber drive than being a parent
Edit; for people saying childbirth is a right, so is not being abused by shitty parent, you're argument means we shouldnt take kids away from parents

Reminds me of a once viral case here where a grandma feed a less than 6 month old grandchild porridge. She ended up in hospital with intestine blockage, crying most likely from the pain. Her doctor repeatedly told her family to not feed her anything at all for the moment, but then came the grandma whom secretly gave her water and she ended up gone, yet the grandma insisted that she kept crying due to thirst. Till the end the grandma insisted that she’s innocent and never felt remorse, meanwhile the baby’s father greatly regretted leaving his baby alone with his mother and letting her do as she wanted to his baby. The scary thing is it’s common here where old women feed their grandchildren stuff babies that tiny musn’t have, and when they’re told not to do it by their kids (the babies’ parents) then they’ll get angry while saying that they had raised them (the babies’ parents) well so they know better, meanwhile in reality not all of those old women’s children survived till adulthood for obvious reasons 😢

I had no idea, I just never thought about it before. I have two nephews and as infants they just drank milk, never thought of giving a baby anything else.

Sometimes there will be cases in my country about babies who died because their grandparents secretly fed them water/solid food behind their parents back. Old people can often be very stubborn and think they are right.

It reminds me of the time when my oldest nephew was a baby and I convinced all of my siblings to go to the amusement park we me. It was a really hot summer day so we used a straw to drop feed him ice water too help him stay cool.

I just double checked with his mom and he was older then 6 months at the time so it wasn't any danger, but I wouldn't have known either way. He'd now a full blown teenager and a pretty cool one at that, so I'm glad that it all worked out.
