I do that with a flat bar. it's because the fulcrum is close to the work and gives you a better lever.

Your mechanical advantage is amplified because you reduced the pivot distance from 5 in to a half inch major leverage advantage. Works with wonder bars too !

I usually put a scrap 2x4 under the head part so I can reuse that nail.

I've just broken off a nail inside my Hilti hand held nail driver...😢 it's flush with piston. Any idea how to get that out???

Great tip! A general contractor taught my that trick at a stag party years ago on a game to see who could hammer in a 4” spike in least amount of whacks.

Great idea. If I have several nails to pull, I use a pair of long handled nippers. They'll about pull anything with little or no effort.

Yea it was less force when you changed the length of the pulley point of the nail from 100% to about 25% of the nail.

Overall work is the same, but more controlled with this method.

20oz Irwin? Thats a great hammer. If you use that method. Go from side to side, way faster.

That's how we used to pull them but boss would make us put a piece of cardboard down b/c it does put dents in the wood decking but for sub-framing its really cool and you can pull out thick nails with very little force needed prying that method vs normal way of prying

That’s how I’ve been doing it for a long time now. I stumbled across it after having shoulder repair. It really is so much easier.

Also another way is to grab a scarp piece of 2x anything so you have more area to remove long nails and they usually don’t fly in any direction

You have better leverage and this more torque at that angle

I was taught to bend it sideways and then bend it the other way because it grabs onto the bend
