I would humbly add that a looper is an excellent way to tighten your rhythm playing, as well as playing to an isolated drum track. If you start to make the drums sound better you're on the right track! The best advice I got decades ago, was to play funk riffs, even if you have no intention of ever playing a funk song. They are as relentless as any full on death metal barrage, and you can practice in your bedroom at low volume, or as my teacher suggested, unplugged.

roll Master of Puppets, Battery, Damage Inc, Disposable heroes, Lepper Messiah, Sanatorium. If you are able to play those songs accurately, you are on the roll. To be able to play MOP song to its 100% it will probably take few years of consistent practise.

practicing with a metronome in different tempo ranges consistently gets your rhytm chops definitely tighter.

If you read enough on any ''guitar hero'' you soon realise that they practiced their asses off to the edge of sanity for a lot of years. Coffee with Dan Swano pls. But pay attention to where your mistakes are and how to correct them, dont practice mindlessly.

Yeah nah yeah mate!

But playing for a lead guitarist with a huge ego will definitely tighten up your sense of rhythm in no time. Just hold yourself back, enjoy the process, don't punch him yet. Easy, laid back, and chill.
