Mixing Major & Minor Pentatonics In Blues - How, Why and What To Practice! Guitar Lesson Tutorial

In this 4th episode of Making The Changes in the Blues Lead Guitar series - we learn how to mix the Major and Minor Pentatonics over a blues. We start simple and fun and gradually make it more interesting and I include a much less common approach which works great. You'll find this a LOAD easier if you've been following along the course so check it out on the website!

It's nearly all 100% free and card details are not needed to register. You have everything to gain, and nothing to lose! My theory course is the best on the web (and one of the very few paid parts of the site) and it's awesome - if your theory is lacking and you wanna fix it - that's the place to go! At my store, you'll find a huge range of super cool guitar themed t-shirts, all my (paper) books, merch and lots more 🙂 and we got proper fun backing tracks for you to jam along with too!

I learned more in the last 18 minutes and 4 seconds than I have in 20 years of dedicated playing. Thanks man

"Try playing major pentatonic on the 4 chord".
Cannot believe I didn't think of that after 25 years of playing guitar.
Thanks a million Justin, for opening this door to non-boring blues solos.

Hi Justin and thanks for everything you do...
My name is John, Dan Under is a pseudonym...
I'm nearly 71 and have played chords on and off (mostly off) at times during my life but never really took learning seriously... until now...
I've watched a few of your videos in recent months while looking for someone to help guide me and then I saw you teaching the guy at Andertons so I signed up with your site yesterday but haven't begun to try and work out where to begin. I have learned the basics of pentatonic scales and then I stumbled on this video. I've watched it 3 times and tried to play along with you and I've found that I can play better than I ever thought possible but I realise that I've got a long way to go and it will require some serious commitment but this video has already made it a fun thing to do... I'm also an Englishman by birth but now an Australian who's retired so plenty of time on my hands so long as I live long enough ;)
PS I was a professional roadie for many years in the 70s and 80s and never thought it was possible for me to play like those guys and maybe I won't but I'd like to have fun trying and hopefully find a bunch of older guys to jam with one day...
So, thanks a million for what you do :)

After reading many of the comments just now I want to add this - "Jason, you're skills as a teacher have evolved. You are a Master teacher and most everyone here knows it."

Justin intuitively knows what people struggles with which is what makes him such a great teacher.

This is the holy grail of the blues explanations! I thank you so much, even I couldn't explain, why I struggled so hard with "the blues language"! The c - c#-secret is the killer! Of course, now it's clear, why you can't marry the A-Maj-pent with the D-Chord. It seems so simple, but you nailed it ! Thanks a lot, Mr. Justin Guitar!!! I feel sooo unchained from an old burden!

15 years ago I learned how to play guitar with you. To this day, you are still teaching me new things. You always do a great job of blending theory with practical application. Thank you!

Outstanding, Ive been trying to get a grip of major minor blues transitions for ages, watched a bunch of videos, read a heap of lessons, learned songs i know to use it and spent hours just "noodling" through maj & min but couldnt see a pattern. This has lifted the fog and also given a ton of things to practice!
Justin, your a star. Donation sent, its been earned 10000 times over. Thanks for all that you do.

This is one of the most important gifts to mankind playing the blues. I drive crazy, that even experienced g-players don.t know or ignore this fundamental goals. Even those, who have a little knowledge in harmonics, deny the importance of mixing both patterns. I.m so in touch with Justin Guitars to show us, how it works. Thanks, kind regards, Henry 😊
