Garage Lumber Rack - Easy Cheap DIY Project

Показать описание
Here is a quick and simple medium duty lumber rack that I made out of 2x3's and 1/2 plywood. This is a super easy project that can be useful to anyone from a beginner to the more seasoned builder.

This project used 6 - 2x3's and 2 1/2 - 10" strips of 1/2 plywood. Plywood was in the home depot 70% off cull bin (for around $4-5 per sheet) and was warped and cracked in many places... but still good enough for this project:) Not sure how many screws I used but lets say that a 1/3 to 1/2 a box would do it;) I used an assortment of what I had on hand though.

Please check out my other videos for more random homesteading style projects:) Thanks for watching!

This is awesome because you can move/raise/lower the brackets as needed!

After watching dozens and dozens of videos covering this subject when I'm sleepy after work for about a week...I like this design. I'd like to attempt it tomorrow now. Great job, big guy!!!

Nice to find a vid that isn't over the top complicated. Its for storing wood not for showing off your skills.
thanks, This is the one im going with!

8 years later I just built these in my garage. Lumber prices are a little different than when you made the video! Thanks for the inspiration!

Brilliant!! 7 years late to the party but this is still relevant. I'm in the Philippines and we got flooded out a few weeks ago, not too deep but it hit my carport, where I store my lumber and steel, and a lot of the ply has delaminated or the steel has rusted. I need to get everything off the floor. Luckily being in the Philippines 3x2 and plywood are 2 of the main construction materials, so I have lots lying around. This is my project for today, thanks for posting this in 2017 or so!

I probably viewed 50 or so videos of shop lumber storage racks. I liked your design the best as I had most of the spare stock to make it, and your "pull up". the pull up sold it. I was looking for something that could handle that kind of weight. I cleaned out the garage and made it this weekend. It turned out awesome! Just wanted to say thanks for the video.

Good idea !!! It is now 2022 and lumber prices have gone through the roof the past 3 to 4 years. It will be interesting to compare costs ! I like the straight forward design which is super strong !

I know this video is 6 years old but it's still helping people, I followed your design and it was really easy and very sturdy, I have to mount into concreete which brought a few issue into the equation, but I just wanted to say thanks for making an instructional video for us noobie woodworkers

Winner winner chicken dinner. Doing this this weekend. I tore down about 200' of fence when I moved into my house and have been using it for projects (like double barn doors for my man cave) and I still have a mountain of it that needs to be organized taking up half my garage. Was about to spend money at home depot but I got the pieces for this. Great design! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve researched several ideas for a lumber rack and yours still the more easy to build plus very straightforward approach and minimal waste of materials. Great job!

I use magnets all the time to find drywall screws and thus the studs... most of the time. Sometimes you get a wall where whoever hung the drywall totally sucked at hitting the stud. So I use magnets to find the screws super quick and get an idea where the studs are for planning then I go back with a stud finder and verify before putting anything up. Also if you get a really strong magnet you can find EMT, gas pipe, water pipe, etc.

Like the storage idea. Simple and loads ofstorage area. Random lumber lengths and width are difficult to store in an organized manner. Thanks for thd idea. Impressed with the pull up. ... I need to work on that idea!

I usually don't subscribe to someone new until after 3-4 interesting videos. I made an exception for you...this one video sold me. Simple, strong, cheap, and easy on the eyes. Can it get any better? I submit it cannot.

Gonna follow your lead this weekend - with the same color tools even. Props for the way you used that wood block as a jig to negate your need for measuring the 2x3s going between the plywood hangers-that was sweet.
Many thanks Sir, and God Bless.

Out of the many, many lumber rack videos, this one seems to be the simplest, easiest and quickest way to build and install them

I'm gonna do it this way.

Great tutorial, thanks!

Hi Joe, I am a lady DIYer just starting out over here in Australia. I absolutely loved the ease and the strength of these brackets. The video quality and time lapse stuff made it a pleasure to watch. Thanks mate. Jacki

Just like other comments I too had seen other videos and everything looked weak, I was a little skeptical at first about this design also but decided to go with it, I made 6 rows about 2 feet apart and i have huge 8 quarter cherry and walnut stacked on it. I even did a weight test, it holds up great. I didn't watch the full video because I knew exactly how to go about doing this, and put screws and glue on everything. I put 3 screws on each side and 2 in the back for the 2x4. It's holding a huge load of wood. Thanks for sharing!!!
