Those aren’t proper corsets. The right corset is usually made for someone’s body and very rarely causes issues. It’s the stupid amazon ones that can be damaging because they lace it too tight and the corset doesn’t fit them.

Please stop spreading this misinformation. Corsets are a Victorian equivalent of a bra, and are not uncomfortable. They are amazing for back support as well. They came from the 1800’s “stays” which were not laced tightly, and wasp waists were usually edited through hand painting photos.

Only modern corsets have that problem the old historical ones had little pillows on the hips and bust like a push up braw I wear one for historical reenactments the ones with the pillows are super comfy and there also not supposed to be very riggade

I… my fashion historian self is dying of cringe. This is misinformation. While yeah tight lacing did exist p, it was more of a fetish/fancy night out type thing. Like wearing stilettos. It’s not comfy, it’s not supposed to be comfy.

But for the average day to day, corsets actually provide more support than a modern bra and help with your posture, no organ rearrangement or restricted breathing involved.

This is called tight lacing. It was a trend and was even reguarded as dangerous during the time. But generally speaking, corsets where made by women, for women, were comfortable, supportive, and allowed for full range of movement. Where they get their bad rap is not only from the tight lacing trend, but from propaganda that were more often than not, written and (badly) drawn by men.

There's a lot of exaggeration in this there's tons of different types of corsets throughout the ages. They seem to be only talking about one type of corset which is the metal ribbed one. There are other corsets that were lined with bone. Some other ones that were lined with like more flexible materials that wouldn't change your body or make you make it really hard to breathe
