Chuck sounds like the kind of guy who has watched a lot of "This Old House", and I enjoy that quality about him.

I recently started using rafts instead of large brims for items with small contact areas and have found them much easier to remove neatly.

When I had a damaged bed on an Ender 3 pro, rafts worked very well until the bed was replaced. I was quite happy that it let me work around the bed issues at the time. I had similar results with removal being quite easy.

After my current print is done I am definitely printing those rail covers. I am always cleaning them things out I use a paintbrush but they still are a pain sometimes. Thanks for sharing.

Printed the 6 gear herringbone bearing by emmet this morning and the first one welded itself together due to the tight tolerance. Re sliced it with a raft and it came out perfect!

Rafts are also great for those teeny tiny prints that refuse to stick to the bed even with a brim or those extra tall skinny prints that like to come unglued when almost finished or those extra large flat prints that tend to warp up in the corners.

My ender 3 v2 bed was warped. Bought a new bed like you. That's the only sensible solution to a warped bed in my opinion.

Thanks for this video I just got my ender 3 V2 and printing with rafts is a game changer. I’ve been printing so much better and it’s worth the extra time. Also these mods are awesome I just finished printing the slot covers and I’m doing the x & y now :)

Came here for clarification on the raft and this helped I’m printing asa for the first time and the air gap will help popping it off I just hope it doesn’t warp like people say

Thankyou so much CHEP! This helped me so much with small text prints fitting into a background print. Even with large clearance, I had multiple "elephant foot" failed prints resulting in sanding. First 3 runs with using rafts and they were perfect, I didnt have to sand/file anything and the pieces fell into place, actually requiring some glue now because it helped the clearance so much!

Thank you. I have a meager TronXY X1 with which I made my first steps in 3D printing. And until I was better at it, rafts saved my back. And I was discouraged to use them by comments and videos I saw.. But I think they are a great tool to overcome problems that you don't have an other solution at hand.

I've been using rafts on my Ender 3 Pro and Tevo Tornado for the last several months, primarily because my house is very old and drafts wreak havoc with bed adhesion. I've come to like using rafts for many prints. Bed leveling issues aside, they tend to adhere much better, especially for tall prints where the nozzle can cause stress points along the base of brims.

I've had a few different glass beds (some Creality, some other brands) and each one came super warped. I also hated that I had to use the freezer to get very stuck on prints off. I've also heard reports of the added weight causing issues in printing.

Switched to a steel spring sheet with a PEI layer and it's amazing. Super flat, super light, better adhesion and it's thin and bendy, so you can just bend it and your print pops off. Haven't touched my spatula since getting it.

Highly recommend trying it! I got mine for $20 off ebay, fully assembled.

Rafts are great! They come off a lot easier than brims too. No trimming of flash from the brim around the edges.

Plus I keep the bigger ones as test pieces for painting prints.

I was searching and searching for the option to reduce the raft size, clocked this video and gave a 80's fist pump. Thanks for the help :D
