I had a chart schedule for kids jobs. I put the cards in a pocket hanging chart. On the back of the job were the instructions on how to do it in great detail. I was a foster home for teens. My job was to teach life skills. The detailed chart worked wonders especially with young adults that had never been taught how to do simple tasks. Your idea of clean and their idea of how to clean could not be farther apart.

My daughter was just asking and talking about wanting to start her step son (4y) started on choirs. His dad doesn't think he's old enough. I said OH YES HE IS!

Loved this I forwarded it to my niece that thinks her 4-year-old is to young to have chores. I told her she was making a mistake she would regret later because if they learn young it's not a new thing to do and it's not the most terrible thing in the world. Chores are not punishment. I to;d her to do a simple chore chart where she earns points for doing her chores after she accumulates so many points she gets a special treat. Nothing big maybe extra park time or a special time with just mom or dad but I'm crazy. I thank God that both of mu kids learned young to do chores and why it was a necessary evil. Like learning to use the dreaded washing machine.

My mum thinks I make my kids do too much. I'm glad to see in this video and in the comments that my mum is wrong and I'm actually very "laxxed" with the chores they have to do lol. I should have known when she told me I should not be making my 5 and 8 year olds clean their rooms haha. I used to get very annoyed with my housemate because my kids had chores and had to clean up after themselves and help me on big cleaning days etc. but her daughter did not have to do ANYTHING. I nannied this girl as my job full time and trying to get her to clean her filthy room was almost impossible. I was limited in what kind of methods I could use as she was not my child and I had to abide by her mums methods and it was so hard because she was never expected to do anything at all around the house, ever. I started doubting myself a lot in those times because I thought maybe I expected too much of my kids and maybe I should be cleaning up after them more. I prefer my kids to be more independent. People say it is lazy but really half the time it would be so much easier to just do it myself. making them do it is a lot more work but I feel like it is so important because I have literally seen grown ass adults who do not know how to work a vacuum, or do dishes, or even put on a load of bloody washing. it is insane and I know I don't want my kids ending up like that! my kids chores consist mostly of "emu parade" (which is just going around the house picking up random crap like toys clothes etc off the floor), feeding the dogs, cleaning their rooms (which is a battle. they never want to do it!) and taking out the rubbish (my older boy). that is it. we have big cleaning days where we all have extra jobs like I ask my youngest boy to wipe down the cabinet faces in the kitchen while I am doing the dishes, and my oldest will be told to tidy the back yard picking up toys/crap our dog has chewed up etc. That is really it, but my mum has accused me of making my children "slaves". I cannot tell you how much it eases my stress and self doubt watching this video I am sorry for the novel but I am grateful! thanks!
