Excel Tutorial: Using the INDIRECT Function in Excel

The INDIRECT function is part of the Lookup and Reference group of functions in Excel. It is unique in many ways because it is an Excel function that does not perform any calculations, evaluate conditions, or perform logical tests. So, what does INDIRECT do, and why is it useful?

Excel INDIRECT is used to indirectly reference cells, ranges, other sheets, or workbooks. It lets you return the reference to a cell-based on its string representation. As a result, you can change a cell reference within a formula without changing the formula itself. Here’s how to use the INDIRECT function in Excel.

Can you use this function in CRM ( One to Many) . i.e. I have several worksheets. One is the records of many Customers ( Companies), the second Contacts ( All employees who are working in each Company), third Invoice records. Each company may have zero to 100 invoices, forth sheet for all work orders (Each company may have zero to 100). The using Data Validation and Combo Box to select a company in a new sheet and upon doing this to see certain columns from other sheets. ( Name, Title, Email & Phone of its contacts), (Date, Invoice Number, Product, Value, ..) from Invoices, same goes for Work orders and any other sheets. I would appreciate your input. Thank you

Is this a function I can use to reference a cell containing the name of another sheet in the same workbook? More to the point, I'd like to display the value of a cell in a sheet that I'd name in the reference cell.

When I work within one excel sheet that function works perfect but if I'd want to display this in another document? How to corectly link that ?

I really appreciate your help, thank you very much! On my excel I have Purchase & Sale column together. Purchase can be in cash & in Credit & also the same way Sale can be in cash & in Credit. Now I need to get total credit in purchase & total credit in Sale. The same to credit for sale. Can I do this with this function?? Or shall I send you please?

Thanks for the very informative video. Besides indirect function, I learned another way of cell referencing. The indirect function appears like a catalyst. It doesn't work by itself, but it makes other functions work easily.
