Installing a Lutron Dimmer Switch (What Lutron Doesn't Tell You)

Lutron has a great video on installing their dimmer switch. But if you buy the dimmer with a toggle switch, they do not show you where to install the wires. It was so frustrating trying to figure it out, so I made a video. Hope it helps.

Mark... thank you so much for making this video!  I had put the switch in and they DON'T give you the instruction for the wires, so I didn't use the correct screw, but instead I thought the problem wasn't the switch after all and was about to call an electrician.  It wasn't until I saw your great video description (What Lutron Doesn't Tell You)...I just knew you were the miracle.   BINGO!!!   So easy (because of you) and so perfect.   I don't know what motivates great people like you to take time out of your day to make these helpful video's, but KNOW I'm a fan. Mark, You Sir are AWESOME! For about 5 years I have lived with my wiring being wrong and my dimmer lights working in reverse (off/on) and your video showed me exactly the problem (haven't had the time to address the issue and just used them as they were). Lutron and other manufacturers who have crummy videos that don't tell you exactly how to set up their equipment really make me angry. I know I have returned different kinds of switches and such that probably would have worked if they had a no bull video like yours. It would have saved time and lots of frustration.

Thanks for the tip about using the connection screw on the opposing side. Intuitively, most guys would use the two on the same side, as this is how most single-pole switches are designed. The dimmer will function that way, but the up/down is reversed for the toggle. Choosing the brass screw on the opposing side solves the problem. Good find.

Thanks for helping me pop my "dimmer switch installation" cherry. LoL. Seriously, very easy with this video. I have been replacing outlets (the sockets, not the cover plates!), and light switches, and now that I know how easy it is, I want dimmers everywhere! I sense myself spending a small fortune on electrical doo-dads in 2021.

I would like to offer a personal thank you. I replaced my toggle switch with the Lutron dimmer months ago. I never worked correctly. I finally decided to start from scratch and install a new fan/light (I really needed to do this). But when I was done, the same issue, the lights would just blink incessantly. After watching your video I discovered that the wiring was incorrect. All is well, thanks again.
