Get Your Kick and 808 Bass In Phase! 💪

Do you struggle mixing kick and 808 bass? Here's a phase alignment tutorial to help you get your kick and 808 bass in phase – and punching through the speakers properly!

The problem with this technique is that if you change your route note of your 808 sync-phased with you kick, you will be getting phase problems anyways. So, unless you only hit one note in your 808, yet you'll be out of phase with your kick. Best way for me is to sidechain using, of course, Shaperbox 2 or 3.

Phase/polarity check between kick, bass sounds, different snares, and every low-end-heavy instrument is KEY!! Side-chain remains weak as long as the audio waves take energy away from each other.

Makes sense when you think of how we actually create the 'sound', eg oscillating paper discs. If you have contrary low frequency waves its going to test the limits of the technology to accurately reproduce that sound.

If you get your 808/sub out of serum or a different synth where you can control where the phase starts you can easily play with the phase knob till it lines up

u dont have to overcomplicate music at times. just do a sidechain and thats it.

It punches through alright, but it also adds 4 db on your master bus. Try to go a step further and fade the bass in for the length of the kick when they hit together. The truth is kick and bass will never play nice together unless they hit at slightly different times. Thank me later 😅

Very important to Note is that if the kick and sub are in the same Key. Phase will be much more likely and much easier to align with volume automation for example or fading :)

the best thing to fix phasing is to sidechain not to change polarity
