Police in Lansing, Michigan apologize after handcuffing a boy who they said fit the description of a man wanted for auto thefts.

The nerve of the department to say the kid was in the wrong place at the wrong time. How about hold your officers accountable for detaining the wrong person. The kid is literally at his residence aka home. If he can't be home, then where can he be? The cop is to blame not the kid. I hope the family get millions.

SUE for emotional damages and anything else they can sue for bc, im sure, , this sick incident has scarred him, HES 12!! If ppl were able to personally sue cops, police brutality and incidents like this one wouldn't exist.

I can related to this. At the age of 16 I was pulled from a car by police because I matched the description of some one wanted for armed robbery and assault. I to was cuffed and detained. I was released a few moments later when they found I had no tattoos (the real suspect did). They showed me a photo of the wanted person. Have to say, it was close enough. Dude looked just like me. Did it scare me? Of course it did. But I had no issue with the police. They did their job! I complied with their commands respectfully and they treated me respectfully. By the way...I am Caucasian. Shows this can and does happen with any race. The real issue isn't skin color...its skin thickness! People are so easily offended and butt hurt these days.

Former police officer said that in his experience, there are protocols most officers would follow in this case.

“You can cuff a juvenile temporarily, for your own safety, ” Dolunt said. “Check the body for a weapon…but if he says, ‘Hey, I’m 12 years old, ’ then you might want to uncuff him, verify his identity and his age and stuff, and then move on.”

Black young man yellow shorts and white T-shirt. Of course they wanted to make sure.
Unfortunate but that happens. Just let the police do their work. They did not beat him or put a knee on his neck. They only detained him for a moment. No harm done. No need for a lawyer.
