Speaking as a recently retired HS teacher of 30 yrs, believe me when I say, ignoring parents is the very WORST thing you can do. Open, frequent, and RESPECTFUL communications with parents is essential. There is a reason why that I not only survived but thrived during my 30 year career. Angry parents can and will end careers of not only teachers, but also admin and board members. Party affiliation does not matter. Their children are their paramount concern. Not really hard to figure out, but so many are blind to this.

I am Indian and I can tell you Indian students (and many Chinese as well) would dominate any School/College in the world and it's not because of some special DNA but because our parents are very committed for their kids to actually study and deliver and that we have to make something significant out of our lives. I can guarantee - 90% of Indian parents are not wasting their time talking to their kids about "Systemic racism" in education.

I'm afro-latina and I want my kids taught reading, writing and arithmetic. I don't want education dollars wasted on outside activist consultants.

I shouldn’t have to love a journalist, but the “press” forced this upon me. Good for you Matt and keep up the great work.

The Dem - "I don't understand this idea that parents should decide what's being taught"...
Yeah, that's the problem

Funny how Nicole Hannah Jones, who has done no research on the topic, gets to opine on MSNBC -- if there is discrimination in the U.S., it isn't against her ignorance, ideology and hubris.

Always appreciate Matt's journalistic integrity, such a rare thing these days.

2 contradictory remarks in a row 👍

Hannah-Jones: "There're a lot of black parents in Virginia, there're a lot of Latino parents in Virginia ... they want more teaching about race and the history of racism."

Also Hannah-Jones: "I don't really understand the idea that parents should decide what's being taught."

Yes. The democrats are off base about the many things you describe. Also, there are many black and brown people who want their children to learn the things that children have always learned in the American public school system.

I just stop listening to people who blame everything on race.

Wanting to raise your own kids your own way is not racist.

Dems: "Parents do not have a say"
Also Dems: "How could we lose parents to the GOP? Racism! "

Matt Taibbi is a national treasure. Even when I disagree with him, I get insight out of every interview he does. This society would be completely different if he were the norm in journalism.

They don't want parents involved or to have a say in what is taught in schools because then they can't promote their terrible education programs.

When the Governor said Parents should have no say in what their kids are being taught he lost the election
The idea that parents have control of education is why we elect school boards.
Now I don't think a group of radicals should start banning books but at the basic level parents should have a say

love how that black chick tells us what black people in Virginia want...like she bothered to ask any of them

I've voted Democratic my whole life but wokeism and coronamania will be the death of them, I've had about enough and will vote for your secular, libertarian type Republicans whenever I get the chance

One thing I noticed is that Black immigrants from places like Nigeria or Jamaica excel through hard work and show that we don’t need reverse discrimination or ‘affirmative action’. It is all a question of how you are raised.
