Sony Action Cam HDR-AS20/B Review - An almost-great camera held back by major defects

A review of the Sony Action Cam HDR-AS20/B. This little camera has awesome video quality with lots of great features however it does unfortunately have some major defects with it as well. In this video, I'll be reviewing all the different features that this camcorder offers and also take a look at the biggest PROS and CONS of it too. Plus, I go into detail about the major defects with the microphones and the camera lens module mounting. Think you are right pointing out the poor sound recording, after seeing your review I went and checked random uploads to youtube recorded with this camera and they all have the issues. Nice review!!

Nice review with a helpful practical demonstration on the microphone issue, thanks! Would've liked to hear more about the  smartphone remote control feature. Really considering on buying this one for its good value.

as far as mounting goes couldnt you just unlatch the front cap on the case and still use it?

Some fleamarket vendor sold me this action cam new as a used returned item for $10 lol. It works great. I had to buy a battery for it but it is awesome. Good upload!

Hey! Awesome review. I'm actually interested in buying an action camera but I'm deciding between this one or the gopro hero. I'm aware of the noise problem that you mentioned on the video but what about the stability feature? Doesn't that maybe compensate the audio defect? Because I know the gopro doesn't have that feature. So what do you recommend? Thanks a lot!

I understand about Sony's over sensitive microphone. I had a Sony DSC W370 camera and the mic was so over sensitive that the camera was useless in movie mode. Every sound the camera picked was distorted because the record level could not be adjusted.

Lens seems straight on mine, think yours must have been a bad batch.

The scratching doesn't bother me too much, just got to be careful handling it.I don't like that it record sound in slowmo modes though. I've set up a second camera in the past, synced audio and slowed it down but it's a huge pain in the ass.

I don't know what they were thinking with the oval bottom. It's not an issue though unless you forget the housing.

I'd have preferred centre mount too but considering it was less than half the price of the gopro I was quite happy.

Appart from that I'm pretty happy with this camera but I haven't used any other action cams to compare it to.

The other problem i have found is that the lens can fog up if you are using it in cold weather.As the camera warms up in use, the completetely sealed case can cause condensation issues.

its a very great and useful video about the cam. I have as question: do you think the other versions also have the same problem with noice or the AS20 only? I mean AS10, AS15, AS100? can you tell me your oppinion or experience please? thanks

I am going to be getting a camera to do reviews of power sports products. bikes sleds ATVs etc.. any suggestions as to what camera to get. this one was the front runner until I heard about the microphone issues
