GM AC high pressure valve failure

hey guys so have you ever filled your GM AC with Freon to only find that it's leaking. well here's why. apparently GM has their high pressure valve in a weird way that once the valve is pressed down, it goes bad. all GM or Chevy high pressure AC valves do this apparently. it's super easy to replace these high pressure valves. use a 16 mm wrench and a vice grips and twist. it's that easy.

Thank you I thought I was going to have to replace the whole line, I didn't know it came apart there.

Didn't know it could be retrofit to a normal Schrader valve until I found your video. Fantastic - Thanks!

Man, after a lot of searching, this is what I was looking for. Didn’t want to have to replace the whole line. Thank you for sharing!

Had the same problem and I started undoing the top half of the HP line and I thought to YouTube. Thank you for this!!! Saved me time and money

This is clearly showing the defective part after a high side recharge port failure. Thanks for the great post. This is an easy and inexpensive fix compared to replacing the hard line this sits on.

Yes. Thanks. It looks like the whole test port is welded onto the line. You saved me a lot of money.

Thank you! Every other videos was making it way more complicated than it needed to be

This happened to me today. I couldn't understand why things went south so quickly but I assumed it was that valve. Thanks!

Thanks for this! We tried to separate it at the line in the square block. Didn't try turning it at the hex. I read somewhere that if its a hex on top it's replaceable, if it is octagon, it is not.

Yeah it's nice to see something live, first hand. You know it existed or you can visualize it in your head but nothing like seeing it live. Thanks

Ty for video. I bought 800-955 part AC Schrader Valve from Advanced Auto Parts store for my 2000 Chevrolet Prizm and changed it way you told. AC is now working perfectly. Thanks.

Just an FYI: You said you were not sure if the system had moisture inside. Take it from a 30-year HVACR tech: Whenever you completely lose the charge and have to do as you did, it is a 100% guarantee you have moisture inside the system in the form of air which has moisture in it and needs to be vacuumed down to -29 PSIG or as close as you can. -30 PSIG is excitable for at least 30 minutes. Never just recharge a system that is low on refrigerant without finding and repairing the leak source. It will come back to haunt you and cost you more money in the long run, like ruining a compressor. Good job King Customz.

HA HA! Same thing happened to my Alero yesterday. With the engine off I pressurized the system because it was blowing hot. Heard a hissing coming from this very valve. Replaced the valve with an identical spare I had nd it is cold as a Chicago winter in the car now even though it was 111 here in AZ today. I ordered a new one with the Schrader valve from Amazon (<$6.00) and will keep it as a spare for when the replaced valve with the diaphragm goes bad. Good video and information. Thanks!

I was a GM tech for 40 years and I have never heard of a one time use service port.
Ports can be damage by inexpensive port adapters. Don't turn the knob down tight.

Thank you Sir!! Thought I was crazy with the valve not looking like the others on YT.
