Reason#62828 to get stronger 💪🏽

First off, kneeling is not inherently bad. Even after a knee replacement once you can tolerate it.
But when your knees are irritated- kneeling may not be the most comfortable so there are alternate ways to get up!

One caveat…they do require some strength so it’s important to build strength before trying ⚠️
You do also need some knee mobility here as well- so continuing to work on both bending and straightening is important ☝🏽

Now there are other ways to get up- these are just two suggestions that may be helpful for you 🤗
If there is a possibility to have something to push up from, I highly recommend using it like in strategy one for increased safety.

Use caution when trying these and make sure you have appropriate supervision and assistance if needed ⚠️

Getting up from the floor is possible without kneeling- it may just take some practice!
If these aren’t easy right away, that’s okay! Just like anything else- you may have to practice a few times so your body gets used to it 🙌🏼

Building single leg strength is absolutely imperative.

One client I had, hadn’t kneeled for years because of fear and anticipation of pain. Once we worked through some strengthening movements- she tried for the first time getting up from the floor and was shocked at how easy it was‼️

It is possible! You just need the right steps to get you there ✅

Thank you so much I actually ended up on the floor cause I was raising my legs for circulation and then later I could not get up from the floor my husband was not home so this helped me a lot thank you so much for helping so many people n I subscribed

Perfect timing 😂 today I had to do this but still struggling a year after surgery. I was thinking, I should ask Dr. Alyssa for a video on this👍

This is great but most seniors have weak shoulders and arms. Me for example: VERTIGO: fell in my restroom and broke my left shoulder in 3 places and injured my right knee. FIRST MONTH WAS HELL. MEDICAL PEOPLE FOUND A COW WITH FANTASY INSURANCE AND THEY ORDERED ALL SORTS OF XRAYS AND PHYSICAL THERAPY. MY SON WAS TOLD THAT IF THINGS DIDN'T IMPROVE, I WOULD NEED SURGERY. AT MY AGE I FIGURED IT WAS USELESS. I JUST WONDER HOW MANY SENIORS ARE BEING TAKEN FOR A RIDE. I AM OLD NOT STUPID. I REALLY THANK THE INTERNET AND THE ADVICE THEY GIVE US.
I ASK MY DOCTOR IF SOMETHING IS GOOD FOR ME AND I FOLLOW HIS ADVICE.

Great strategy. After recovering from a meniscus bucket tear on-top of a dislocation, I've only been able to do this solo after losing 14kilo. (whew!) Before that I would have to sit there waiting until the family came in looking for lunch.

I practice getting up from the floor every day and I have to kneel and then I push up with my hands. This makes my knees sore. Does this cause any permanent damage to my knees?

Nice technique however, why don't you put something around your knees to stiffen them up for a more accurate situation. You are a skinny little thing that can bend your knees full extent, others of us can't get full range of motion so this only helps with technique. Thanks for trying though.

Older people are notorious for not having strength.
