Mary Poppins Author P.L. Travers Based The Beloved Character On This Strict Woman In Her Life..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We think it’s safe to say that pretty much everyone knows about Mary Poppins! But what do you know about the real life woman who gave Pamela Lyndon the inspiration to create the character? Yes, there was a “real” Mary Poppins and she came into the author’s life at a time when she was really needed! Not only was that character inspired by P.L. Travers’ great aunt Helen Morehead, but so was the main character in her short story “Aunt Sass.” Although she’s a beloved figure, making her into a film starring actress Julie Andrews wasn’t easy. Not a lot of people said “no” to Walt Disney but this author was one of them. And when the film finally got made she wasn’t a big fan since she felt it had deviated too far from the original story. We’ll talk about what the studio got right and what the author belives they got totally wrong. We wonder what she would have thought about the sequel starring actress Emily Blunt!

What do you think of the true story behind everyone’s favorite magical nanny? Do you think the movies were fitting adaptations of the original book series or did they deviate way too far from the source material? I’ve always loved Julie Andrew's portrayal of all the characters she's played. She's an excellent, inspiring actress, with unparalleled ability and sensitivity.

Saving me banks is one of my favorite movies and the song that ms. P.L Travers only liked was “Let’s go fly a kite”

Travers died in 1996, but the stage musical wasn't performed until 2002-03, so she'd never have seen it?

MAry Poppins isn't the ONLY Disney character based on a real person. There's also Pocahontas, Christopher Robin, Alice, and Peter Pan.

I loved this movie it was a bit soul crushing when I learned that PL Travers hated the movie so much she cried after she saw it

I haven't read the original books and didn't even know there was such story behind. So I am kind of surprised. Since I don't know about the books, I can't speak of how I like them to the film. I love the film, because I have seen it. And the songs are amazing, catchy, phenomenal, and they go straight to the heart and brings light to the dark, hard life.

Can't believe the writers of this piece missed her Broadway musical "Victor Victoria" it actually based on her 1982 movie with the same title. Also directed by her late husband Blake Edwards.

She might've enjoyed Mary Poppins Returns because the title character seems to be more strict in that one. She may've been closer to how her aunt was.

The stage musical was staged after she died. How could we say that she preferred it to the film version? It would have been more correct to say that she hoped it would be more true to her original stories.

It is unimaginable that any one else could have played the angelic Mary Poppins. Let alone Barbara Streisand. July forever.

Just learned that the 2013 film called "Saving Mr. Banks" was the story of P.L. Travers, the writer of Mary Poppins.
