I love how business oriented you guys are kudos! I think this summer maybe the beginning of the end for the genre/geek pop culture wave. Within a year we need another Dark Knight or Avengers for this trend to continue. With Disney at the helm & good chance for studio script interference I'm not super confident. Especially with Star Trek ItD really grinding to make back it's budget & preform over seas.

Agree with John, I think they'll change directors regardless if the film does good or bad, both commercially and critically. I think they should pursue Brad Bird for one of the following installments - the reason he declined the offer for Episode VII is because he's currently working on his own Tomorrowland project, but by the time they begin work on episodes VIII and IX he'll probably be free.

I rewatched the prequels a few days ago and I found that I liked Phantom Menace more than the last time I saw it. I thoroughly enjoy the prequels just as much as the originals. Abrams has done some brilliant work on both TV and film, I don't doubt him with Ep VII

For me biggest thing has been the smaller cost movies doing very well. Surge, the heat, despicable me 2 budget all under 100 mil and preforming strong. I'm not confident the big 100 million+ feature will see the green light as much.

Your right about the Prequels to a point. There was a lot of things done wrong with them but there was also a lot of things done right. Either way, Ep. 7 will be a box office hit.

I can't see J.J. Abrams failing. If anything I think it ups the ante with him in the chair. All of the fist movies in each trilogy were a little slow so they could introduce characters and establish the story line. I think Abrams will set the tone early and the movie will be the best Star Wars film yet! I am excited to see what he will do.

Its gonna be a disappointment no matter what in the eyes of many people, Star Wars die hards are gonna tear the shit out of it simply because it wont recapture the same magic those people felt when they first watched the SW movies.

I love Star Wars, I really do. Attack of the Clones, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi are my favorite so far. But if I had to choose my number one, it would be Return of the Jedi.

JJ Abrams is a brave man for taking on star wars episode 7 imagine if someone else took the spot like Michael bay we would be seeing explosions everywhere

They'll switch directors for Star Wars episodes VIII and IX. Bring on Matthew Vaughn and Kenneth Brannagh!

Phantom Menace was a disappointment as well, and George Lucas did went onto make Attack of the Clones, also a disappointment, and Revenge of the Sith, which was good.

Uhhh, JJ Abrams' name has cache the way no other director mentioned here has. You'd think guys who get paid to comment on movies would understand that very basic level dynamic of how the movie business works. But cool story.
