Hi, my name is Anna and every week I summarise a parenting book or self help book – specifically focusing on the best books every parent should buy or read following positive parenting philosophy and ones that have made a positive difference in my life.

My goal is to help other busy parents get the tools and strategies they need to improve all relationships in their lives. Because let’s face it, reading parenting books is often at the bottom of our priority list when we are juggling so many things in our life!

This week’s video is not a book summary but focusing on defining what Positive Parenting is by explaining the 4 different parenting styles (and their effects) developed by the psychologist Baumrind in the 60s – specifically explaining how to be a positive parent without falling into permissive parenting and/or authoritarian parenting. I give specific parenting tips on how to set limits for kids, how to set boundaries effectively without yelling - how to differentiate positive parenting vs permissive vs authoritarian parenting.

Thank you so much. This is so helpful and useful. My parents are authoritative.

I love the point you made about the human brain, and how it does not fully form until the age of 25. When people realize the science, like you said, creating boundaries and rules is actually one of the most loving things parents can do for children, because children need rules as guide-posts while their brains grow. Until they are 25, they do not have the reasoning functioning as an adult has---a different brain entirely. Beautifully said!
