Rose Pruning 101

Get those blooming beauts ready for spring! February is a great time to prune - it stimulates new growth and will help your branches grow seamlessly.

You’ll need clean, sharp pruners ✂️ and we highly suggest rose gloves. You don’t want to scrape yourself up in the process.

🌹 Only prune above the bud union (the knot at the base of your rose) at a 45 degree angle. If you prune straight, this can cause fungus to grow.
🌹 Remove dead or damaged canes and any small, twiggy branches. You want to make sure to remove branches that are growing towards the center of the shrub to create an ‘open vase’ shape.
🌹 After pruning, feed with a rose fertilizer. We like Dr. Earth total advantage. This will provide essential nutrients and will encourage new growth.

Don't need to be 45 degrees. Can be straight if you need it. 😁
