The last time Christian Wardlaw test drove a Lexus ES Hybrid, he came away wishing for an F Sport trim. Well, Lexus Santa Claus has come in the night, and Wardlaw finds himself testing a brand new 2022 ES 300H F Sport. Do the sporty updates give the ES Hybrid new life?

Just ordered my ES300h FSport. Being as this a luxury hybrid…I wasn’t expecting thrilling performance. Just a nice ride that can get out of its own way. Which in my test drive I felt it did that. I agree the black rims on blue don’t look that great. But on my Ultra white with the Circuit red and black trim interior….I think they look great! To each their own :)

I'm not a fan of the black wheels as well. I love and much prefer the charcoal graphite finish wheels on the F-Sport instead

That's a shame, in the UK all we have is the 300h, however we get AVS and F-Sport wheels which is basically what you were wanting.

I've had a hard time accepting black wheels. They seem to visually slow a car down. I guarantee you Jerry Rice looks faster in white cleats than black.

Hi Chris, Late reply here. The Australian ES300H F Sport has ‘Adaptive Variable Suspension’, ‘front and rear performance rods’ and ‘Drive Mode Select’. Are these additions you were hoping for in your test vehicle and were thinking would make the real difference? From your review, your car did not have these options. Can you comment please? I am looking at purchasing an ES300H and not sure which grade to buy. Paul

I want a hybrid with 300 horse power and good mpg. I believe this will be achievable with better battery technology. Possibly with Toyota’s new solid slate battery technology. It’s still a beautiful car.
