You need combinations of Martial Arts to be a complete fighting. I like the idea of Muay Thai and Judo.

Ground fighting styles is not recommended for street fights, if you are fighting multiple opponents and you take someone down then their friends will stomp you in the nuts. And the ground could possibly have broken glass.

There are no "complete" martial arts. There are only "complete" martial artists.

In my opinion, I think boxing and wrestling are the best for a street fight as you will be able to master the basics of street fighting, I think Thai kickboxing and bjj are the best for MMA but in a street fight you can’t warm up your kicks and don’t want to be on the ground a while, but with boxing there is little warmup needed and with wrestling you can easily slam someone on concrete. So overall I think boxing and wrestling are the most useful for self defence as anyone who want to street fight tend to be untrained and therefore you 9/10 will be able to beat someone untrained at striking and grappling. Just my opinion though.

Krav Maga is suffering the McDojo phenomenon right now, if they aren’t connected to the Israeli military in their training don’t bother.

All of this lacks the most important aspect: the ATTACK. All counteractive moves and decisions depend on the attack type, number and situation. But overall combining a striking/standing art like karate/kickboxing with some grappling should be the way. But remember - we cannot be good fighters without practising fighting - and by this I mean not in the training hall with a polite and helping partner...

Don't expect to go to a street fight without getting some punches and kicks yourself. Sometimes it's not just about technique, it's also about resistance and conditioning. In that matter, Karate in its Goju-ryu branch is really useful. You learn a bit of everything, from striking, to grapling, to throwing, to endurance. In the moment of truth, you better dominate a bit of everything, you don't know what's coming up.

The issue with Taekwondo in a street fight is the way in which Taekwondo conditions you to guard against strikes. It also assumes the fight is going to break out at moderate - long range, which again is an assumption that cannot be banked on. If you are going to rely on Taekwondo for Self-Defence, take some classes in Boxing and Judo alongside, to work on your guard, clinch work and trips/throws when in close quarters.

For example, I come from a Boxing background but over the past year have began to take on board Escrima, Panantukan & Wrestling to close over the holes in my martial toolkit.

Traditional karate (the original one, from Okinawa) is also very effective, as it includes kicks, punches, take downs, grappling, and many techniques that are really good to finish a fight fast.

Training for self defence in realistic situations against non compliant, 'anything goes' opponents is the best approach. Using this method will quickly show which techniques work and which do not. Environment and situational awareness are big factors. A master was asked "How can I win every fight". He answered, "Not be there". Excellent advice which is similar to Sun Tzu who advised only getting into fights that you know you would win, this requires the training mentioned above plus, great situational awareness, pre-emtive avoidance strategy and self control how many martial arts teach that?

Lethwei kickboxing and judo are my mix-up. I’m grateful that I so far haven’t gotten the chance to utilize it— last thing I want is the trouble that comes after trouble.

I have a bit over 8 years experience in may thai. But I agree, carrying my firearm has been the better choice with how things are now.
