I really cannot imagine Jocko running away from anyone

I agree 99.9% of the time you can run away. Greed and/or Ego are the cause of 100% of conflict.

Listening to this podcast was like watching a movie come to life, or a video game. Made me feel like reality was even cooler than fiction. Sensitive but super disciplined robot obsessed deep thinker scientist meets high powered ultra disciplined soldier Jocko, master of simple sophistication, literal Navy SEAL legend — for a conversation on morality and many other things. Thank you to "skinny little" (lol) Lex for being the protagonist of this channel, and taking all of us players on an intellectual journey. Thanks for continuing to inspire us.

It sounds like what you should REALLY start with is Track!

Outside of Professional sports, He's 100% right. Everybody loses in a fight. Even when you win, the price still sucks. Damaging other people feels like shit.

From age 7 to 10 I did karate Shotokan and it was fun, then from age 10 to 21 I did competitive Judo, I've then got into kickboxing, muay Thai, and jiujitsu. I'm 40 now and I haven't been in a street fight since I was 25, I think back on those conflicts the only thing I ever used was Judo, maybe because it was ingrained in me for over ten years but I do believe is the fastest way to end any fight. Obviously, I agree with Jocko, just run or walk away, especially if there are multiple opponents.

This is a mature response. It only breaks down if you feel you need to help someone being bullied or feel somehow you can’t walk away.

What style of jiu-jitsu? BJJ shouldn't even be on the list.

So what if someone breaks into your house at night? I can't hop out the window because I'd be leaving my kids inside. Let's say guns are not an option.

If Jocko's argument to put Jiu Jitsu at #1 is that you can run away unless you are grabbed, then that still puts Judo and Wrestling above Jiu Jitsu. If you're grabbed, then you should still be standing up; it hasn't gone to the ground yet.

If you can do a Judo throw on someone who grabs you while staying on your feet, that's an opportunity to run while the other person is down.

but judo would be better than bjj in this scenario... because if you're grabbed and you're a judoka... it's not you who's going down... its them.

Автор

Judo is more powerful and aggressive than bjj. In my opinion, for I short and fast action judo is better.

I wonder if Wing Chun wouldn't be the best in a street fight. Before someone can grapple you or hit you, a wing chun would throw the opponent's hands off balance and then poke the opponent in the eyes, very quickly then over

Jocko is the kind of guy who fills in all the dots on the multiple choice test 🙄

Judo in AMERICA has no ground game... no where else

'just run away bro' is a fallacy. It's usually not possible for a variety of reasons.

Some of us have to go to work and have children we take care of. How do you find time to train in multiple martial arts...?

Gracie Ju Jitsu, Judo, Muau Thai …. Should be good to go from there.
