Goblet of Fire was my favourite one. Absolutely loved that book, just everything about it.

I loved spew!!! It added an amazing layer to Hermione’s character. I thoroughly enjoyed those parts of the book.

I know SPEW is kinda a drag bit is deepens Hermione's character and sets up the Romione kiss perfectly. Him caring about something she's passionate about is really sweet

I think it's a great shame to hear her say this. SPEW made perfect sense and Dumbledore verifies this when he says Sirius should have been kinder to Kreacher.

The thing about SPEW is that it does address what a reader could independently realize is an injustice within the wizarding world, and it becomes a major scaffolding around which Ron's development endears Hermione to him.

honestly for me, with Order of the Phoenix, its really only long winded in the beginning but once u get through those first few chapters its a breeze. I actually read that book the fastest. Goblet of Fire in the other hand took me the longest to read, a lot of the fluff was scattered amongst the chapters & it was quite a chore for me to get through. I love both books though. Just my opinion personally

SPEW was great but I think JKR needed more time to plan out how exactly it was going to work out. It ended up being a little messily handled in my opinion, leaving a weird, ambiguous message that could be interpreted as justifying slavery which I definitely don’t think was her intention. So i can understand why she regrets it because it opened up a can of worms that she didn’t have enough time to resolve. It’s one of those aspects of the series where her writing deadlines show worse than other parts (JKR has confirmed in the past that she was rushed to finish Goblet). Also with time all of the social justice subplots of HP have soured given that JKR is now a proud TERF who stands against equal rights for all people.

I think Goblet is perfectly fine, but Order of the Phoenix needs some help

What is her biggest regret about Phoenix? Can someone please tell me? I really want to know.

Spew was fine - went well with the anti-giant stuff and set up Umbridge's wizard suoremacy for the next book. The thing to lose in GoF was the Ludo Bagman subplot.

No way. Good that JKR didnt cut off all that.
I love this filler stuff, might not have anything major to do with the overall plot, but since it was written really well, it didnt bore me.
And there were so many nice light hearted moments when Ron teases her about her SPEW project. And those were really nice.
And not to mention the part in Deathly hallows where Ron mentions the house elves during the battle of hogwarts, and then Hermione kisses him dropping the basilisk fangs on the ground. I think she finally kissed him because of the care he showed to those elves.

"I wanted to show endemic injustice in that world" proceeded to do nothing about it but perpetuate the status quo

I’m so glad she admitted that making S.P.E.W Hermione’s cause of choice was a mistake. It felt completely misaligned with her character being extremely intelligent, logic driven & well versed in magical history. Throughout the series she asks Harry & Ron several times if they ever read a History of Magic, which she goes on to call it a glossed over account of history because it doesn’t speak of the plight of house elves. I had a hard timing buying this sub-story line, Hermione was way too smart to not realize that house elves have accepted (& even enjoy) their station in the wizarding world. Especially after they visited the kitchens, saw how distraught was Winky for being dismissed & the reaction of the other house elves to both her & Dobby. It makes sense why they cut this out of the films!
