I've been asked this question lots! Are photochromic lenses worth it? These sun reactive lenses go by many names, such as Transitions lenses, reactions, Sensity and many more.

Now the honest answer is that it completely depends upon your own individual lifestyle, needs and requirements.

You need to think about your hobbies, work life and interests to decide.

I hope this video gives you a fair and honest opinion from a professional point of view.

As always, please let me know in the comments if you have any questions, also it would be great to hear if you have tried Photochromic lenses before or not?

If you found this interesting, then please let me know by giving the video a thumbs up with a like.

I have always had to have photochromic lenses, I wear my glasses everyday and when I have to go run errands I just don’t like going between putting on glasses and putting on sunglasses, so it’s just easier to have the transition lenses in my opinion.

I'm 45, and have used photochromatics since my first prescription, 30 years ago. I can't imagine life without them.

I’d like them if they turn completely clear, and quickly, when going inside, and when going outside they turn completely dark and quickly too. Seems like they never get super dark and never get super clear, and transition slowly, from the ones I’ve seen other people having.

I have been wearing photochromic glasses since 1975, had the brown and grey lenses, but mainly grey as they go darker, I have been wearing them for so long I can't tell when they change colour and back again.
now about to buy Transitions Xtractive

Absolutely a great option.

Does away with separate sunglasses or clip ons. And the newest technology clears quite quickly. Wouldn't be without it now.

I buy all my eyewear with photochromic lenses. UV is present all year around. I tend to not wear sunglasses in the fall & winter which I should on those bright cold days.

Do photochromic lenses add any bad visual effects to high prescription lenses? My prescription is - 12 and - 11.5 and I usually get a 1.74 hi index lense, but my most recent pair with transitions shows a lot of added coke bottle effect .

I’m thinking of getting some prescriptions for riding glasses, I had a pair in 1998-1999 and liked them but they took forever to transition back to clear…I hear the technology is much quicker now, definitely want something for sun protection while riding without needing to carry 2 pair.

Do photochromic lenses block blue light?

Hi Colin, in my country there are optics that sell photochromic lenses and also "photochromic AB" lenses which stands for "photochromic and anti blue ray". If all photochromic lenses naturally block blue ray / blue light, why the existence of "photochromic AB" lenses? Are they regular photochromic lenses coated with additional layer of blue ray blocking properties? Thanks!

I see that you’ve transition them with a UV flashlight; I assume that it safe to do so?

I want to pick up a UV flashlight myself, so that I can turn my lenses any time that I want to.

Hi, im wonering if is it possible to tint a photochomic lens? I'd actually like my lenses to be a little tinted (as lightly, to be suitable even for night time), i also prefer it to get darker in sunshin. So i think i'd like to lightly tint my photochromic lenses. Is it possible or a good idea (for somebody who cant afford a handfull of eyeglasses for different evironments)?
Thanks a lot

Had cataract surgery last year and recently had photochromic lens put in a good frame with a prescription to tune my vision up when driving. They came back but are not sharp when sitting on my face but it I hold them where I can cant each lens up about 10 degrees or so the image sharpens up in each lens--each lens has the opposite direction of cant of the lens but about the same degree required. Do you have any idea what might cause this?

seeing how cheap photochromatic lenses have become on chinese cycling glasses they are now a really good option. 20€ instead of 100 or 200€ that western brands offer? damn.
