if you don't have vinegar, then sour salt (citric acid) also works; about half a teaspoon will eat away the shell of an egg

Now imagine what vinegar does to your teeth

Edit: If you don't brush your teeth and neutralize the acidity immediately after eating foods with vinegar, you are effectively "letting your teeth sit in vinegar". Saliva takes upwards of 2 hours to fully neutralize acidic food leftovers in your mouth. It does not get more acidic that vinegar at a pH of 2.5
