They're also the ones who denied the existance of joycon drift.

Thanks, but I’m already keeping my Nintendo switch in dock for overnight since day it was released. So for the 5 years my battery lost about 10-15% capacity and it’s normal, so I still can play BOTW or Witcher 3 on it for 2, 5-3 hours

Yeah i understand where this one came from. a lot of older model phones and electronics would constantly charge past the top point and over time your battery would degrade. But with more recent electronics they're smart enough to know when there full and only take what they need. A good way to test this in devices if its not mentioned onan official site is leave it plugged in and wait if the device is warm to the touch its still pulling power

I've had my switch since launch. I don't think I've ever powered it down all the way, and battery life is just fine. The game you're playing will be the main factor in battery life in handheld.

you should be powering off your switch once every couple of weeks to keep your switch performing at the highest level, but other than that leaving it in rest mode docked for all of eternity wont have too big of a negative impact

I’m gonna be real I didn’t even know there was a turn off button

Got the og switch. Battery is fine. Factory controllers also have no issues yet. Lucky me

I’ve literally been doing this same thing and I have not been having problems with my Switch’s battery at all

Can confirm. I hardly ever turn it fully off and it has the same battery life that it had when I first got it

Mine has been in the dock since i got it in 2017 still works great

People forget electronics have ways to protect themselves from over charging

When it comes down to it. This issue with leaving it charging used to be an issue. They however have methods that can just tell it’s good and will only top it up if needed, and not overcharge things which is where the damage came from. However if it’s off it doesn’t have to top it up in any capacity until it’s needed again.

Most electronics have an internal charge controller that constantly checks battery voltage and when it reaches the 4.2v or whatever an electronic switch disconnects the flow of energy. You cannot listen to anyone on the internet.

Yeah it won’t effect it. I’m almost sure it stops charging somehow when it reaches 100 as well unless the charging icon just disappears once it’s fully charged but either way the battery won’t last forever so I’d say still take care of it well

Oh, maybe Nintendo put charge controllers in later models. For those were confused, a charge controller is a special part that negates excess charge when the battery is at full charge keeping it safe from further electrons going into negative terminal. Since Nintendo made the switch a hybrid consul, it should make sense.

this is correct.. wearing of batteries is due to movement of electrons. Hence but keeping the device always charged in dock (while not in use) will minimize this movement compared to normal draining when not in dock.

This "issue" is really on a device-manufacturer basis. If done with the proper precautions, most devices now adays should be able to be kept on the charger as most manufacturers program the devices to stop receiving a charge after it hits 100%. This mainly stayed as a rumor for overcharging as in the late 1990's, and even earlier, overcharging a battery would deteriorate the battery's cells due to the constant heat that was being produced by the charging of the battery and many other possible factors. That's why plenty of older devices with separate batteries that were charged separately stated in the manual to not overcharge it and to keep an eye on it while you have it charging. Now, the phone or the battery will more than likely have the necessary circuitry and programming to help prevent overcharging; especially if it's from a reputable company.

Leaving it fully charged will eventually wear down the battery faster.
A setting to cap the battery at 80 percent or so would really help extend it's life.

Yes, every device has a chip that cuts power when the battery is full. At least the ones that need it.

With one possible exception: absurdly extended periods of time. A day or 2 won't matter, but leave it on the dock for a month or so, it may ruin the battery. However, unlike my phone, it does not detect the device clock being skipped by months at a time amd adjust the max battery percent, unlike my phone.
