The standard range Model Y really impressed me and will be more than enough for most people. I cover what my experience was like driving this for a few days.

One thing to add; the max charging speed on the standard range model y is 230kW compared to 250 in all of the Model Y variants. I made a mistake saying they were the same in this video.

I just bought the RWD Model Y up here in Canada and while it has 30 miles less than the American made SR, it has the LFP cells that can be charged to 100% and its frankly awesome.

My first Tesla was a 2021 Model S LR, with 405 rated miles. My second, and current Tesla is a 2022 Model Y LR, rated at 330 miles. For the majority of us, it doesn’t matter, because my bladder needs emptying before I run out of range. Plus, Tesla Superchargers are fun to experience, so we look forward to stopping. Don’t get me started on how much more relaxing it is to stop more often for shorter periods!

I bought a M3SR a year ago. I can charge the LFP to 100% and I get 250-260 real world range in mixed driving - and if I only drive it around town I get almost exactly the EPA range of 269. The worst range I got was last winter on a 200 mile, 75MPH drive on a frigid, very windy day. So I stopped at a charger and in the time it took to walk inside, use the restroom, pour a cup of coffee, pay for it, and walk back to the car, I had almost 100 more miles of range. Unless you can’t charge at home, routinely drive an insane number of miles and live in an area devoid of fast chargers, this kind of range is absolutely fine. I honestly NEVER even think about range now, just like I don’t think about it in my gas car.

Sold my 2021 MY 5 month ago, just bought a 2023 MY 4680 out of texas. Build quality is a world of a different. Doors have solid feel when closed and it feels like a solid car instead of a tin box on wheels. Going from 1 to the other i cant tell the difference in speed. Much quieter, hw4, screen is nore snappy and i think its overall much better. Taking it on a trip to ohio from central florida end of October. We'll see how it goes.

I got my M3 SR+ in March 2021 for just under $40K out the door, including red paint. LR was +$10K more, and the P was $14K over the SR.

I have just as much fun, get all the OTA updates, have access to the Supercharger network, and get all the perks and benefits of the EV lifestyle - plus saved myself a boatload of dough in the purchase, AND the daily operation (it’s so damn efficient!).

Don’t sell the SR short just on the numbers on a spec sheet. I’ve been across the US and up and down the West Coast in my trusty SR!

Great video as always. 👍🏼

Well timed. For those looking for the SR, there are a few left in inventory at substantially discounted prices. This model has now been discontinued.

Having had a 3LR for 18 months I feel the range is irrelevant. It doesn't really matter if the car does 220, 250 or 300 miles. I stop more often than that and actually enjoy the charge stop and have a proper break.

Picked up our standard range last Saturday in Glendale. Austin build and love that it has the matrix headlights and premium sound system for a standard range.

Had an opportunity with my MYLR this past weekend, a road tip where the interstate distance was 168 miles out and back for a 336 mile journey. Average speed was 70MPH resulting in 3.96 mi/kw vs rated efficiency of 4.4 mi/kw, a 10% loss. I did the same trip last year in a hybrid with a personal average MPG of 42.8. My Trip MPG for the same route was 38 MPG, an 11% loss. this is comparable to Out of Spec Reviews 70 MPH test on the MYLR.

We have a 2022 RWD Model 3 and absolutely love it. Sure, it has fewer miles of range than a Performance or Long Range Model 3 but that doesn't matter as much in our use case. With reliable SuperChargers all over the place coupled with charging at home it just a super easy car to live with. We roadtripped it ½ way across the US and back with zero issues. The ability to full charge the LFP battery often is an easy sell to someone whose experience with batteries is limited to a laptop or a cellphone. For us, it's less about the overall range but more about ease of charging. Great video.

Maybe try a longer road trip and see how your experience pans out for the charge experience, that would be great to compare to Branden's model Y standard Range, Branden's experience with charging infrastructure and understanding is top of form, he has a excellent understanding of the technical details when it comes to chargers and charging! Your channel and his are on my favourite list of YouTube content!

I got Model Y SR and price difference of 7K between SR and LR was the sole reason i went with SR and 50 mile difference is not a big deal! I feel SR built quality is better than LR that i test drove.

I just got a 2023 Model Y LR. I tested it and if I drive at 65/70 miles an hour I do get 330 miles range. Now the car is brand new so I will see what happens over time.

I drive an original SR from 2021 with only the rear motor. In the summer I usually get better than the rated range if I keep my speed down. With ordinary driving I still get around 90%

I have this car and after 8k miles no battery degradation, get about 85 percent of advertised range without babying it. On city streets avg 240 wh/mi. I have driven to vegas 5 times and have had no issues with anything. Its ride is more comfortable than any model y I have driven. It is plenty fast and the range has never been a problem at all. 1 stop from la to vegas. Ride is very quiet even with the radio off, I actually have 0 complaints since buying this car and I'm trying to find things i do not like. My fuel savings is 5/1 over my ice car. Charging speeds can be slower than other MY's that is maybe the only drawback.

I traded my 2020 MY for a 2023 MY SR back in April. The car is vastly improved over my 2020. The suspension is much much better. I also don’t really notice much of a mileage range “loss” between the 2. Realistically I get about 230miles on my SR w/ the 20 inch wheels. I’m happy w/ the SR

I drive a 2020 model three, but we rented a 2022 model Y on our vacation to Hawaii recently. I was very impressed with the quietness and the comfort of the Y. Def my next car if not the Cybertruck.

I opted for the SR model Y largely because I go on very few road trips so the extra range is not important to me. Every two months I do a 210 mile daily round-trip from Palm Springs to Anaheim via a stop in Redlands. Starting with 100% charge I complete the trip with around 20% left when I get home. So for me saving $3000 on the purchase was a no-brainer. In addition, I have found good use for the rear shelf, not included in the LR model, when parking with packages or luggage that I do not want to be visible The build quality of my 2023 is exceptionally good. I literally could find no problems with the fit and finish. I agree that Tesla’s hype over the 4680 battery was a big nothing burger. I am taking some risk that the 4680 will hold up as well as the 2170 battery, but so far so good.
