You forgot one: Stores regularly moving their products to different aisles, and to & from end caps. In order to force you to wander through more of the store, past more products in the hope you'll impules buy, while looking for a specific item on your list (which they moved).

Take note, next time you go to a store you frequent & purchase some specific items, or types of items, which are no longer in their old location. They were likely moved to force you to go looking down other aisles for them.

Must be a cold heartless robot since nothing mentioned in this video effects me.

No to #7

Maybe I'm anti-social but I would NOT go back to a store where an employee was rude to me and I've experienced rude salespeople. No thank you. My money deserves better :-)

Nicely done video though. Very useful and insightful.

Stores are also desgined to make you buy more, they invite you with fresh fruits, so you get some of that, then there is meat, then there is bread, then there is breakfest, lunch, snacks, toilet things and then candy at the end because you will think ''why not''. Things you dont need every week is in the middle of the store.

I unconsciously stumbled on the rudeness increases sale technique and later I found out this is a technique American Express built their entire business model on. They make you feel as if you've won a spot in an exclusive country club with the phrase: Membership has its privileges.

If you're rude to me I won't buy anything from you and I won't be back! Also I never understood why you pay more for bulk, every store around here does that. I will buy multiple smaller items rather than bulk cause it's cheaper. Only once in a great while will a bulk item cost less and that's probably because it's shelf life is ending.

"Asda" stores (a.k.a "Wallmart" UK) put milk and bread at the back of the shop (about 3 miles walk), so you have to walk past everything else, and buy other things.

How about #11 variety. I always go in for one item than come out with ten items and I make excuses for it :-(

I am very aware of these tricks. So I avoid getting the cart... of course I don't have kids. Think folks with kids are at a disadvantage when they go shopping. They get fleeced...

This is hilarious. I've seen these tactics affect people I am with, but never affect me for some reason. I know I have asperger's but I don't know what exactly makes me invulnerable to these charms. Going shopping is super cheap and super fast with me LOL

Honestly, absolutely none of these have ever worked on me. I know what i'm buying, I go in, I grab whatever, I get out. Then again, I also have social anxiety and extremely dislike being out in public where there are a good amount of people around. Either way.

The tiny shopping trollies that are for kids, with the flag that says, "Shopper in Training"..
Is really telling of the fast - purchase consumption culture we are in.
Makes me ill when I see a little person pushing one.. sadness.

One trick I use is walk in to a store with the intention of walking out with nothing. If you walk out with something. Try to figure out what prompted you to buy that piece of crap. If you cant figure that out, don't return it, you will probably end up buying something else.

The also raise the price of certain items or make them smaller so you pay more for less.

Walmart has it's own radio station it plays in it's stores. I have learned over the years, to tune out the high pressure stuff and get my shit and get out. I also work at a Walmart Marketplace so I hear about this stuff.
