Walmart was pretty new to our area in the early 1990s, knew somebody who got a job there. As soon as Sam Walton died he noticed all of the American-made goods were getting replaced with imported stuff. When he asked the manager about it, he was simply told "we're in the business of making money". He quit the job shortly afterwards.

Walmart has done more to cause the closing of American factories than pretty much any other factor of our society, and for that reason I'll never shop there.

Mr. Sam was a fine man. His greedy kids grew the company and intentionally shut down local competition in small towns to establish a monopoly. Then by reputation they moved into suburban America. They sell with the clams of being patriotic and buy products from China for consumers. Don't even get me started on how they treat employees.
I have not shopped there in years. I would rather pay a dollar more and support local retail. Sorry Ken. You gave a good report, but I am prejudiced by knowing behind the scenes corporate greed involved here.

I find nothing more fascinating and inviting than an old house that hasn't changed much. I still love the old look of the 70s and 80s and it's my dream to find a older house like that

Walmart NEVER FAILS to disappoint. Your go-to place for a sweatpants fashion show and lame customer service!

Walmart is like a nuclear bomb on small towns, all those little independent shops destroyed to be replaced by a giant bland warehouse, depressing.

Too bad the current Family members don’t live by the same philosophy as Sam!

My father who was hunting buddies with some of Walmart's executives in the early 1980s told me stories about Sam Walton according to them. One of his executive friends had purchased a new home and a new RV. Sam apparently told him you have to sell one or the other. We cannot flaunt our wealth or people will get the wrong impression and we will no longer be seen as for the little guy.

Walmart was much better when Sam was alive. I remember him touting most of his products were made in the USA. American flags were often in his TV ads, along with himself. After he died the suits took over and most of their products came from CHINA, at a much lower cost. And a MUCH higher profit. They have put out of business a LOT of smaller places and even American factories.

We live a short distance from Bentonville - Walmart is the life link in rural Arkansas.
I do LOVE Frank Lloyd Wright style homes.

We live in a rural area in NC and our neighbor worked at a local Wal-Mart. Sam would visit on occasion and would talk to the employees. I think that he even remembered her name. I used to work at Sears in the 70's. Occasionally, the big shots would come in for an inspection and the bosses would get on us to have everything perfect. One time, they just walked up the main isle and then went out to play golf. I don't recall ever hearing of anyone other than upper management talking to them. Big difference.

Worked for the local Walmart several years ago, until I came down with a bad case of the flu. Took a couple weeks off at the advice of my doctor. Even with the doctor note, they fired me for "taking too much time off". I've refused to set foot or buy from them since then. Louisiana lets employers fire for whatever reason.

Until the kids took over, now we see where they got most from, their mom, smh, only if Sam knew, he would not have left them one dime.

I worked for them for 5 yrs. and Sam is probably rolling in his grave right now. Employees are no longer treated well.

He was an incredible prick to his family. The only thing he “left” them was money.

Sam got himself sued by his employees back in the day for paying substandard wages. He was not always on the up and up when making his money.

say what you want about walmart, but I can't find a 2.5lb bag of frozen wild blueberries for $8 ANYWHERE else. But yes they are destroying small town America a little bit...I wish I had the money to always buy local, I'd do it in a heartbeat instead.

When Sam Walton passed, his family took advantage of that and changed it.
