Today I drive and review a 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N!

The sound thing will improve over time but I swear, this false gearing thing is innovative as hell and will revolutionize the electric car market. You'll see, in five years time every electric car will offer the same driving experience. It's a game changer.

This car is almost as fast as BMW M2 CS around Nurburgring, and it can do 2 laps of Nurburgring before it needs recharge/cool down. Not even Taycan can do that. It is an EV super car from an unlikely source, Hyundai.

It makes perfect sense to separate the regen G forces into different torque bands, the digital equivalent of mechanical gearing. And the brain processes feedback quicker with sound. Turn off the sound and you have to feel where the RPM is.
The whole setup just makes sense. Straight-line acceleration any EV maker can do and it will get boring. Adding analog controls so you can control and shift your regen G forces is where the future of performance EVs will be.

I'm genuinely surprised how good it looks and how insanely fun it looks to drive. This and the new Dodge Charger definitely seem like the most interesting EVs

Seriously this machine takes ev and puts it to a whole new level. I drive a 24 Kona electric limited and wonder if Hyundai is going to make the Kona electric N since the Kona N has been discontinue sadly. I wouldn’t mind having this though, that simulated engine note and paddle shifting would be addicting for me since I’m a car guy. I love the sound of an engine from a ice car but don’t like what they pollute, so this in an EV is an game changer.

Although this engine sound or exhaust sound is not real, it is definitely not the sound coming from the speakers inside the car. There are separate speakers at the engine and exhaust locations that actually emit sound from there. So these sounds can be heard from outside. Like a real engine vehicle. Actually, it's hard to say that it's fake at this level. That's because the engine sound and exhaust sound of a car are made like that anyway.

I mean if electric is the future, at least let it be this kind and not the boring silent EV type with no character. As a die hard petrolhead, this actually makes sense and I really hope other manufacturers take the same path Hyundai has chosen to take. This changes everything we hate about EV's. There is still the range and weight issue but that's nothing battery technology can't solve.

Hate or love Hyundai they are making strides in many departments. They have the only CVT that feels and shifts exactly like a traditional planetary geared automatic, and now this. It’s not perfect but if I had to pick an EV, it would no doubt be this.

If you configure the car, you can still get sound when using NGB it just takes out the gears
