Regarding the situation on 09:24, I don't think your backing off is a wrong option. If you backing off towards the edge of the right hand side of the box, you are buying time for the winger to sprint back to double up which he didn't do that. Also, you are buying time for other midfielder to come back. In that scenario, the ball side DM can get a little deeper to reduce the space between the lines and avoid the cut inside shot. You may concern the winger can make a back pass towards the teammate outside the left hand side of the box but you can see there is already another midfielder near to him.

For another situation 18:12, your early engagement seems to leave so much half space for the opposition to run into. If your ball side CB went to cover, there is huge space between the two CBs which the opposition eventually cut in and get lots of space for shooting. If the far CB and far FB shift as well, the back post will get exposed. If you not engage that early, maybe the midfielder can run back to support the defend. Also, the successful rate for the opposition to make an early cross from there is really low.
