Students with special educational needs (SEN) usually require additional support in schools. What are the gaps in the skill sets of SEN students and how can teachers best support them? What are the ways in which teachers can engage with SEN students to create a positive classroom culture?
In this keynote, the speaker, Ms Sarinajit Kaur, Master Teacher (Special Educational Needs), Academy of Singapore Teachers, guided the attendees through reflective practice on their engagement with SEN students in the classroom. The presentation highlighted the importance of creating a positive classroom culture that allows learners with SEN to feel safe with a sense of belonging within the classroom. The learner is positioned at the heart of this sharing as educators are encouraged to consider ways to include all students in the learning experience within the context of a diverse classroom.
