You can buy an airplane for less than $20,000! Welcome to the third video in this airplane buying trilogy.

Before we get started, please don't forget to subscribe and hit the reminder button if you haven't already done so. I am trying to work my way to 1000 subscribers and ALMOST there! Thanks to all who have supported me so far.

As a following up to my last two videos, we round it up with airplanes that are less than $20,000 by delving into the "ultralight" category. You aren't going to go anywhere fast with any of these planes but you are probably going to have a blast skimming along the sky for an hour or so at a time. Even though I have seen many ultralights taking long cross countries, the ultralight's mission is usually focused around patch flying: your imagination decides!

I used to own that last Rans S-14 that was coming in to land. I loved flying that plane. It had the 80hp Rotax 912, and flew like a small fighter plane. I gave $15k for it, and sold it for roughly that a few years later.

On another note, we had an aerolite 103 for a little while. It was decidedly my favorite of all the ultralights we flew, or owned. Handles like a Cessna 150, and zipped along nicely with the Rotax 447. We were lucky enough to snag it for $7500, several years ago.

This has drawn more of my attention to the various types of ultra lights.

They are much cheaper in my country (Poland). I saw a nice condition Rans S12 for about 5k$. If i were not expanding my business i would certainly buy it

I'm surprise the CGS Hawk didn't make the list. Great plane and a joy to fly. Still great job on the list.😊

Why assume a license? The major draw to ultralights is no license requirement. * Used planes checked out by licensed A & P.

I like the aerolite 103 only thing I don't like about it is have any kind mishap landing or even taking off your legs are going to take the impact of a nose over something like a nose over in GA doesn't result in an injury maybe tail wheel aircraft flip over on it's wing. If you legs hit like that then weighs 250 lbs of force could render you unable to walk again.

Hi HUD Pilot, I heard you are from Quebec. Can you tell me where are the ultra-light communities in Quebec or how I could get in touch with ultra-light owners? I have a hard time finding one through a search engine, thanks for the video by the way!

Great vid, covering ultralights and prices. I trained in a 2 seat quicksilver, then bought a single place Cobra (Advanced Aviation), had A BALL flying @ 460 hrs in it., low stall speed and so easy to fly, loved the 'pusher prop'. Later, I sold it for what I paid for it. NOW, I'd love to have another light aircraft, preferably a 2 place, STOL-ish performance, and not too expensive. I don't want to pay for higher end avionics, but I'm sure a GPS would be nice, I'm sure. Most of my hrs have been 103, LSA, ELSA, mostly using only Altimeter, EGT, CHT. I'm looking out for that unicorn now. Lol
Any suggestions about where to go, online, to shop for what I'm looking for? ...or will YT let you post links to other places I'd need to look? Any advice would be much appreciated. Hello from foothills of NC

20 years ago, you could find a Piper j3 for about 6K and a used Cessna 172 for 20 000 $. Fuck the stupid price inflation 😤🖕

Thanks for sharing a very informative video.
I know absolutely nothing about building kit ultralight.
Question:
Once the ultralight is complete does it have to be inspected and certified to fly.
Thanks for sharing.
