Today I'm sharing our homeschool curriculum choices for this coming year for grades 7, 5, and 4! I'll show you a haul of our Gather Round unit studies, language arts, handwriting, chapter books, and talk about our math curriculum.

Hi everyone! My name is Julie, and I'm a mama to FIVE! My kids are 11, 10, 8, 6, and 3. I post videos every Monday that are either mommy tips, favourites, homeschool curriculum reviews, grocery hauls, or some other kind of 'mommy' video! Wednesdays are always a full day of food. I also post large family vlogs on Fridays. Thank you for checking out my channel, and I hope you subscribe so you can keep up on my videos! I love to keep in contact with those who watch my videos to find out what's going on in your life, so please comment below. I always read your comments! :)

We kicked off our year with Vikings and it’s a fantastic unit! I snagged the Seatwork Journals and they are SO worth it! I love how they build and flow throughout the week. We also use TGATB handwriting and my boys are loving the cursive.

So I basically did the same thing as you and put some things together for those days that someone is ill or we are on the go. Being prepared has taken the stress off for sure.

If you want some basic grammar instruction, Language Lessons for a Living Education Levels 2-4 are FANTASTIC. I use Language Lessons as an intro to grammar (parts of speech) using these levels. I totally agree with you that heavy grammar in elementary grades is not very effective and kids do pick up SO MUCH from simply reading. :) I do like to do a gentle intro to basic punctuation and the 8 parts of speech when they are in 2nd-4th-ish grade. Language Lessons are just very simple, straightforward and meaningful lessons. I found TGTB to have a lot of "fluff" mixed in that I didn't want to sift through to get to the grammar lessons.

I really like the way Language Lessons teaches grammar. They teach "verbs" and then they have the student apply what they learn by creating their own sentence using a verb. It's way more fun to do this than to just "circle each verb in each sentence" like so many grammar curriculums do! Plus if the student is creating their own sentence they are more likely to remember and retain the grammar concept being taught and practiced.

Another bonus of Language Lessons is some basic writing instruction. Level 2 does a great job of teaching students how to write a sentence & level 3 teaches how to form a solid five sentence paragraph. I like their intro to writing for my kids. After completing levels 2-3 or 4 we do move on from Language Lessons into other various LA curriculum depending on the need of each child.

Language Lessons are offered in pdf form but they are not free like TGTB, so that is definitely a downside to Language Lessons compared to the free pdfs from TGTB. However, you do have the option to print & bind at home with Language Lessons & I just wanted to throw this out there for you & share my experiences with Language Lessons as I was basically wanting the same for my kids as far as grammar lessons go several years ago when I found Language Lessons!

I hope you and your sweet kids have a fantastic start to your school year! I love following your journey with homeschooling. :)

Great curriculums! We're huge fans of The Good and the Beautiful so I hope you find a way to incorporate that, and it does not overwhelm your school day.

If your kiddos like the I Survived and Who Was books, check out the Ranger in Time books! It’s about a rescue dog who time travels to different historical events to help out kids! My son loves them, I got a bunch on Thriftbooks

I have one kid that loves the Who Was and the I Survived series! She's not been a big reader in the past but since she found those books, she's really started enjoying reading.

Great video!!! I love seeing how you are doing your school year!! I also wanted to tell you the good and the beautiful has essays integrated into it!! Every year starting at I believe level 3 the kids get to do a big research report. I believe there are about four essays a year for level 3 or 4. I do know that by level 6 there are about six or seven. I’m telling you this, because we enjoy it and you might too😃!

We have done 5 of the Vanderbeekers books on audio. We love them. We can't wait for book 6 this fall. Didn't care for the Julie Rothman books that were based on animals. There's evolution and things I didn't care for.

I enjoyed your long video but just needed to watch it over the course of a day because today was our first day back to school! It went well, and I'm liking our new curriculum picks... I just think all of us are exhausted! Lol. I bet you can relate.

Antarctica was my favorite unit ever 🥰 Definitely read the YWAM bio of Ernest Shackleton with it.

My kids are heading to our Christian school this year so not homeschooling but I still need to watch your video lol. I sometimes get some homeschool curriculum for handwriting, art etc at home. If I was homeschooling I would love to get the gather round curriculum...it’s so smart to teach one lesson to all the kids at once.

Great job!👏🏻 I did farm and food last year and we learned so much. I did it as a science class for us and so skipped a lot of the workbook pages for the other subjects. We love the good and the beautiful language arts and writing.🥰it’s very thorough but also very very open and go and user friendly but I did start my 7th grader on the level 3 because we were just starting out but she’s moving through it fast and loving it too. I’m glad I waited to introduce it like you were saying 😊

I printed the free LA and Math for my daughter from the Good and Beautiful. I couldn’t believe it was all free. This is my first year so I appreciated it being free. I’m also thinking of adding in Gather Round later. Dinosaur unit looks great.

I print everything in TGTB LA books just because I don’t want to spend all the time going through the PDFs, but as I’m using it I just skip what we don’t need.
