I love seeing how the literature guides are being implemented with a specific learner. It makes so much sense and I'm so glad she's got those.

I’m commenting late…my son will be in 7th grade this year so it was good to compare notes. Language arts has been a stressful subject for me to plan because there are so many facets to it. I finally decided to focus on grammar this year (Learning Language Arts through Literature, modified) and focus on writing and spelling/vocabulary (two subjects which I had hoped to teach “organically” but which seem to need a bit more attention) next year. I’m hoping to use Writing Skills for Today, which I believe is adapted from Writing Strands. We needed something structured and DIY, but still fun and somewhat light!

These are all old familiar solid curricula, and it is so wise and helpful to others to see that it isn't necessary to buy the new shiny "must have" curriculum . I sold so much of our curriculum over the years since I only have one kiddo. Now that he is almost finished (2 more years) I wish that I had kept it all so that I could use it with others in my little town/church. I'm considering purchasing all of my favorites and teaching classes.

This is the time to nail down writing skills, especially the mastering the essay. Also, good for you for using what you have. 👍🏻 ❤

Love your nerdy homeschool videos! 😘 I was really interested to hear your take on 7th grade. We are just wrapping up my oldest's 7th grade year and I'm really pleased with how she's progressed with writing. We'll be doing LOF this summer to keep her sharp for Algebra in the fall. Hopefully it works! 🤞❤️

Totally agree with Abeka grammar and writing. I’m interested to see how you’ll incorporate writing strands. I haven’t seen too much on this curriculum

The book guides are awesome!!! Nothing wrong with a curriculum rolling over!!! We love masterbooks pdfs but not tried writing stands!!! My older daughter doubles up on science she’s done before!!! I have 2 middle schoolers and my daughter who is my girl is science and anatomy focused and my son is focused on finishing his work so he can play computer games!!! He’s yet to add in a language and is asking for German as his high school language and I’m fine with that as none of us can write well in German so he’ll be challenged!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your sister’s curriculum choices for next year. My daughter is also going into seventh grade and is very helpful to see your curriculum choices. Is your sister not doing The Good and the Beautiful for language arts? Do you do any spelling after sixth grade? I’m trying to figure out what to do for language arts for next year. Thanks for your videos! I really appreciate that you take the time to share your videos with us and answer our questions!

My daughter is going into 8th next year... we really need to work on writing, but with a high schooler who needs me too, I can't teach her DIY writing either... I'm looking into the Writing Strands Intermediate 2 for her... thanks for that idea. She doesn't do well with rigid, cookie-cutter writing programs (IEW, EIW, etc), so I think this may be a good option and tackle literary analysis, which I needed too! WOOHOO!

My son will be in 7th when we finish what we are currently using. We will be moving to SL HBL W for him and I think we are most excited about that. He is currently using Apologia Elementary Chemistry and Physics and he LOVES it. He will move on to the general science next. And he will also move into MUS Pre-Algebra along with LOF Pre-Algebra 0.

Love this video and I appreciate your channel very much! I have a question about a writing curriculum I recently came across..it’s called, “Writing and Rhetoric.” I would very much appreciate your thoughts on it if you have heard of it or looked at it before. ☺️

I really enjoy your videos. Do your middle/high schoolers do a lot of their subjects (like science) independently?

Thank you for sharing. My son is enjoying your literature guide for ‘Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky.’ I love the style of the guide, those elements you have added and the simplicity of the task. We have tried others, and they had so many questions, it was a crazy amount and stole the love of reading, so thank you so much, we shall try more for sure!
A question about science, we have tried and enjoyed Aplogia, and have done the elementary Astronomy and the Botany One. We are trying Sonlight Science this year for the first time. Have you tried Sonlight Science or have thoughts about it, pros/cons and how it compares to Apologia. Obviously the approach is very different, but overall the quality ant content, are they both just as strong?

We used Writing Strands last year and didn't totally love it. It was OK but we did not continue with it

Does your sister use the sonlight teaching guide as she reads the books? I bought a sonlight set for my soon to be 7th grader with the intention of her using it independently, but all of the answers to the comprehension questions are right under the questions. Do you think I should still have her do the guide on her own or have her wait on me to have a chance to ask her all the questions? This is our first time trying sonlight and I think she will like it. Thanks for sharing your curriculum thoughts.

My son also struggles with comprehension and is heading into 6th grade next year. Would your reading comprehension guides work for him? Any particular guide to begin with?
