Europe in 50 Novels #1

preview_player
Показать описание

In this series of 5 videos I will tell you about 50 novels from Europe, one from each country. Well, almost one from each country. My selection is based on quality, psychological depth, cultural or historical importance, written by someone native and available in English. So the list includes mostly novels, some national epics and in rare cases non-fiction or short stories.

Please don't give up after your "Youtube adrenaline" is over, where they make YouTube channels in motivation and after a month or so give up because now they have lost the motivation. Your knowledge and your love for literary works with this channel can achieve much. Much Support for you !!!

Even though I am an Indian, for Croatian literature, I'd nominate On The Edge of Reason by Miroslav Krezla ( apologies if misspelled). Idk how to describe the book, except that it's brilliantly written to expose a tragic ending

Yes! Finally a new upload for my favorite youtube channel. I was one of your early subscriber and without your channel, I would've discovered Madame Bovary way later on

I'm really happy I found your channel! Practical suggestion - it would be very helpful if videos like that had time stamps allowing to jump to the selected topic!!! Love from Poland :) !!!

You probably already have your picks for Poland but I (as a polish student of literature) would suggest you to take a look on The Street of Crocodiles. In my oppinion it is more intresting then for example The Doll and offers more engaging experience as a whole. But after all you do you.

This is a great service to literature. Knowing just one key book from another language creates a doorway to discover more. Then you add extras to help us along. These videos require notetaking to remember them all. Good visuals too.

Well done by the guy who suggested East of the West for Bulgaria. Under the Yoke is really a drag to read and has become a bit obsolete in both its language and messages.

My suggestions would be Made of Guilt by Yoana Elmy and Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov.

Thank you for the recommendation. I hope to read at least one book by a native author before I visit each European country. Or would there be a separate list of books for people who are making short visits to best prepare themselves for the trip?

Would be interested if you do lists about characters too, say, 10 amazing protagonists or antagonists (not ranking, just stating one each that you find best within different archetypes)

White means West so Belarus means "Western Russia" it's direction not literally the colour.

Please, make a video about Bulgarian literature! We have more than Vazov and Penkov. We have historical fiction (Dimitar Talev), historical poems (Hristo Botev), Onegin-like romance (Dimitar Dimov), pure romance (Nikolai Haitov, Emilian Stanev and Petko Slaveikov), super dark and depressed simbolism (by the literary circle "Мисъл" or "Thought"). Even a fantasy detective seriese by Emil Minchev and modern poems by Matei Shopkin. There's a lot that you can talk about despite Vazov!

Andorra: "Its peaceful and people eat healthy food and have fresh air. And people are happy. When you are happy you don't care about literature."

Haha. That made me crack up. Nothing beats the good ol' pain 'n suffering for making real art.

Best Georgian novel is "Man was walking down the road" or "March Rooster" author Otar Chiladze. Also kurban Said was Georgian.

Particularly enjoyed the books on the Ottoman rule. By the way, it looks like the Armenian writer converted to Islam given his (new) name. His blame of the Kurds for the Armenian massacre is unfair as the Kurds were simply following orders from their masters, the Turks.
I have read two books of the books mentioned here. Thanks a bundle.
