The art of book cover design

Despite the saying, people often still judge a book by its cover. In this video we go behind the scenes in one of the art departments at Penguin Random House UK to learn more about the process behind designing a book cover and where it all begins.

Junior Designer Marianne shows how a simple concept can drive the look and feel of a cover to connect with new readers. Collaboration is a large part of a designer’s role, with multiple teams involved in assessing different potential visual options before the book is sent to print.

Please, keep these coming! I love the effort put in every aspect to get a book published. Design is my profession, but also my passion. Thanks for letting us be part of Penguin by sharing these stories!

in fact we need more posters like the one image on that endspapers for worldwide promotions... those posters are very valuable and last very long years over 50 years for some titles. same as a movie poster collection...

I have written ten sci fi fictions. How can I get a platform to publish these manuscripts through Penguin Random House? In 2014, Penguin published an anthology of true life stories titled 'Something Happened On The Way To Heaven ' edited by Sudha Murty. The 11th no story is written by me.

Penguin's cover art is gorgeous... But, their page quality is the absolute worst. Faber & Faber and Vintage also sell affordable books but, their page quality is so good.

Most of the Penguin's books look worn out even if they are brand new. As a customer, I hate that.

Can the author send in a concept of how they would like the cover to look like?
